Bruce Matley ("Nevada Slim") is a veteran of over 40 years of live performance. Born and raised in Reno Nevada to a cattle ranching family, Slim spent much of his childhood and teen years in the saddle on the vast ranges of Northern Nevada, in the hayfields, and engaged in the various tasks associated with ranching.
Influenced by his cowboy singer father, Wayne C. Matley, he began singing at a very early age, and began guitar at age 10. Starting with the usual garage bands in his mid-teens, he progressed into playing the Nevada casino showroom circuit, and in live venues from New York to Cleveland to Los Angeles. In the late seventies, he toured Germany and parts of Italy.
Slim now resides, and sings, in Port Townsend, Washington, where is operates his small record label, Slim Chance Music, the Nevada Slim Band, the Big Slim Daddy oldies band, and duo Suzi & Slim (with partner Susan Abraham).
Slim's music reflects an unbringing which mixed traditional western songs learned from his family and from cowhands, with music that "sold" in cabaret showrooms. He plays a great deal of the music of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Hank Snow, Marty Robbins, and a full complement of folk, oldies, soft rock, and vintage country blues.
