MUSIC
The New Bop Brigade is a Seattle-based modern jazz quintet that performs original post-bop compositions by founders Steve Messick and David Franklin. The music is both accessible and melodic, being inspired by the works of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock during the mid 60’s, but it is never smooth.
PLAYERS
The New Bop Brigade features Seattle artists Chris Stover on trombone, Travis Ranney on tenor sax, David Franklin on piano, Steve Messick on bass, and Ken French on drums.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS
Track 1 - Rainy Sidewalk - The rhythm section grooves while the trombone plays a serene melody.
Track 3 - Wild Strawberry - A piano solo opens to a pretty melody in five.
Track 2 - Theme From “Dr. Chicago” - The horns play an unruly bossa nova melody with solos featuring the rhythm section.
Track 4 - Mordant - The horns romp through a melody in six with boisterous solos.

No whiskey required

I bought this cd because I actually know these guys, and just like Steve Messick's "Transmissions from Planet Bass", this is one groovy disc. I especially like "Theme from Dr. Chicago". Although I enjoy a good whiskey now and then, it's definitely not required when listening to The New Bob Brigade. My only complaint is that they haven't recorded another disc. So, buy this cd so they can afford to record more!

I bought this CD without knowing anything to these guys. I just heard some fragments on this website. Buy it - it is excellent music when enjoying a good whiskey at night.
