Album Notes

“Impossible Things” includes 14 songs by three singer/songwriters. Inspired by 90s alternative, 80s new wave, and classic rock, New People is all about songs that stick in your head. Some of the material is straight up, jangle-guitar power pop. Most of it is inflected by 90s grunge. The voices are each unique and pleasant, and most of the album is heavy with two- or three-part harmonies. The lyrics tend to be jaded and/or depressed, with oblique tales of relationship discord, anxiety, and general dysfunction, but a lot of it is surprisingly funny. Underlying it all is unceasing energy, with solid rock drumming, melodic bass lines, and a textured mass of usually distorted guitars punctuated by hummable solos.
