ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
NEXUS - THE BEAT SYNDICATE: The fourth album of the top Greek band NEXUS, “The Beat Syndicate” is their most complete musical statement. Intelligent and imaginative, highly atmospheric, steeped in mist and melancholy, but most of all, full of driving dance music “The Beat Syndicate” is the group's masterpiece.

After three albums of gothic-industrial madness, NEXUS returns with an album that shines so brightly and colourfully – a true kick in the balls for clubland snobs.

NEXUS is a project run by singer/keyboard player Mike Pougounas, the drummer/computer guru Jim Stevis (aka Dimitris "
Sidheog" Steves), and the bass and guitar player Costas Spanos.

While recording the album in the studio in Athens, the band picked the title “The Beat Syndicate” because of the driving compositions mixed with dark bass-lines which formed and directed the melodies. Behind the dancy beat that teeters on gothic's edge, Mike's vocals are deep and dark.

With the 100% club hit titled “Drop The Luv Bomb”, NEXUS spins off heart-stopping tracks such as “You Always Get A Second Chance” and the fleshier arrangements of “The Saviours Own Slump”.

Once again, they have opted to give it electronified gothic with wit, wild statements, and stormy guitars with the track "Addicted To Ya". “High Heels On Wheels” unveils the band as a spiked synthetic pop unit of considerable merit that can jump from the sublime elegance of the minimalistic “Happiness Is A Lonely Place” to the ala-Nine Inch Nails industrial sounds of “TV-Whoring”.

Long raincoats and perfect, pioneering beats always go together when you listen to this album and the proof can be found in the title track, a pseudo-concert of “The Beat Syndicate”, as well as in the industrial-jazz teeth of “All Clues Lead To Mr. Motto”.

“The Beat Syndicate” will be everybody’s favourite NEXUS album for a variety of reasons, and most of those reasons are, quite simply, that they are delicious songs.

Beautifully pale and wan but with an urge to move your feet, there are so many highlights that it seems unfair to point to anything in particular.

A major album!

*NEW - April 1, 2011: Read our latest review by Sean from Dominion Magazine [UK], which, in part, says:

"Review: Nexus - ‘EP’, ‘Cybernaut’, ‘Wrapped In Cellophane’ & ‘The Beat Syndicate’ - Nexus were
Greece's first industrial band, let alone the country's first internationally renowned industrial band.
Formed by Mike Pougounas after the demise of his previous band The Flowers Of Romance, Nexus
received critical and fan acclaim in both Europe and the U.S. ..."

WHERE ARE THEY NOW:

In May of 2005, Pougounas, Sidheog, and Spanos decided the time had come to begin the creative process once again. Nearly a year later the three of them formed the punk/post punk band called NEW ZERO GOD.

If and when the mood strikes, a new NEXUS album will be created. Until then, we hope you will visit us at any of the following websites:

KILLER CD
The best album this great Greek band ever released. I got all their albums but this one is a killer...

SIDE LINE MUSIC MAGAZINE April-May-June 2005

You can speak of a Nexus sound by now
On their 4th album the Greek act Nexus continues to bring their very own version of darkwave/goth and as usual they try to change sounds constantly in order to keep it interesting for the public and themselves. This time they have been using more bass-lines and less guitars. The bass lines are there to build the structure of the songs. The guitars itself have been replaced by keyboards and the guitars present have been distorted through guitar amps into different sounds. It results in a mix that needs some adaptation once you have grown to the band’s usual sound spectrum. Obvious influences are for sure Nine Inch Nails, “TV-Whoring” illustrates this quite clear, but for the rest the band has reached its mission to bring something less heard. Even Mike’s previous band The Flowers Of Romance has left to my knowledge no single trace in the sound pallet offered. You can speak of a Nexus sound by now, not too easy to get in, always evolving but interesting to discover once you opened the box.

Darkness

this is my favorite NEXUS album
Nexus has a balanced mix of gothic and euro electro – industrial with substantial American – industrial – rock styled influences. The fourth NEXUS album is a must have for clubbers who prefer something different, fresh and vanguarding. “The Beat syndicate” among other countries abroad has also been released in Italy, Spain , Germany and Switzerland where most of the tracks have been recognized as club hits.

Pougounas (vocals, keyboards) , Stevis (drum, programming) , Spanos (bass , guitars) made one more step forward to Nexus high recognition as a successful gothic / industrial band.

Tracks that i have picked out as most preferable are 3 , 6 , 8 , 9.
