Album Notes

I remember my first time... It was noon, and the congregation watched me make my way to the pulpit. They fanned vigorously, expecting the miracle of music. I took a deep breath, gripped the microphone with both hands, and gazed up to heaven. Everyone in the sanctuary waited. This is the first time I would publicly gives praise and thanks to God.

I was 5 years old, and not yet conscious of fear. I opened my mouth, and the first sounds of my voice escaped my lips. The notes drifted sweetly upwards, past the rafters - my prayer of faith, hope, and love. I took another breath, allowing myself to journey into God's sanctuary. Here in this traditional meditation, nothing else mattered - only my voice and the joyful sounds in my soul.

Every church member knew my father - the preacher, my sister - the choir director, my brother - the singer. But only my mother knew my heart, only my mother heard the song I sang each day. Only a mother could hear the message, a little boy's mind was too young to distinguish.

I love you mother for seeing and hearing the music in me and suggesting that first performance that started me on this journey. This CD “Coming home” is a dedication to you, and a gift and to all mothers who love God and their children unconditionally. Please be blessed by this unique sacred musical experience.

“Coming home” features my voice (they tell about 4 octaves:), and the music production of Sam Archer whose work is featured on the movie Soundtrack “Barbershop”. Live violin and cello arrangements on the anthem “It is Well with My Soul” and the meditative “Tread Softly” are performed by my best friend April Roach. The reggae flavored “Eye is on the Sparrow” features Caribbean recording saxophonist and flautist Courtney Fadlin along with my long-time singing partner Timothy Anderson. These special testimonies and much more are all inspired to reconnect you to the God within.

The only original song on the CD “A Song for Mother” received honorable mention at the 13th Annual Billboard Song Contest and held the #1 position on the NY Indie Myspace Healing & Easy Listening, Religious, and Gospel Music Charts.

We all love owning new music, don't we? Now you can own new music because I've reduced the price by over 50%. In economic downturns you naturally need uplifting music because of the positive mental and emotional benefits music has on your life. My job as an artist is to provide a connecting link between you and the Divine. And I, like many independent working artists, take this responsibility very seriously. Music is truly a magnificent gift, isn't it?

Imagine journeying into God’s sanctuary. A beautiful and deeply spiritual experience, and exploring faith, hope and love through songs penned over the span of 300 years. From traditional hymns to Negro spirituals, from Anthems to Gospel favorites - all giving testimony to God's loving power to heal and uplift. All prayerful, joyful and welcoming. Coming to the knowledge that God is our true home.

Minutes passed. And the church erupted in thanksgiving and praise. I remember looking out into the sea of smiling faces, surprised. I had hoped the experience would last longer – that I would have more time to play with the musical notes. But it was alright, because the message was clear. Amen

WoW - What an awesome, gifted Brother of our Generation!!!!
author: Timothy Anderson
I sit and listen. I listen closely to the sound of sweet music and it fills the room I occupy. The says " Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name." This is no ordinary voice, for no ordinary voice could make it sound so good and then to see this talent live, is another journey. He stands and bellows out the last notes on Higher Ground and It is well with my soul. God has truly blessed us with a rare talent, don't make another purchase until this CD is in your cart. A must have for christians and just REAL music lovers alike. If you listen really closely, you can hear the versatility in his voice and feel how the music follows him. The musician must have had it real easy working with John. If you don't have this yet, what are you really waiting for?

Purest falsetto & Vocal Control...
author: Delroy Souden - En Sound Entertainment
John Martinborough is an accomplished singer/songwriter who has one of the purest falsetto and vocal control you have ever heard. Produced by none other than Sam Archer (Barbershop Move Sound Track, Courtney Fadlin, Delroy Souden, Timothy Anderson), this is a gospel collection unlike any you’ve heard. It is easy to recognize that each song is delivered from John’s heart. He arranged all the songs and has teamed up with Courtney Fadlin on saxophone, Timothy Anderson, Ismael Jeffers on vocals and April Roach on Violin and Cello, some of gospel music’s rising stars. If worship and solitude is what you crave, then you’ve found the right CD. John Martinborough is truly one of gospel’s most inspiring vocalists whose music touches the heart and reaches you right where you are. Songs include “The Lord’s Prayer”, “Amazing Grace”, “A Quiet Place” and more of your favorites. Coming Home is a smooth, uplifting and inspiring collection of songs.

Great & Inspiring
author: Paul Ranger - New Talent Display TV Show
John Martinborough appeared on a recent program featuring gospel music, where he sang "Amazing Grace" I have never heard that song performed that way before. It was a refreshing rendition of a old and very familiar favorite. The way in which he exploits each note speakes volume of his talent and skills. You must hear it, or hear it again! It was great, and inspiring.

Your album is inspiring to me--spiritually and personally
author: John Martinborough
By the way, your album is divine!!!!!! I absolutely love it. I know the songs and learnt them in my childhood, but your arrangements are special. Usually, when I listen to a CD for the first time, I like to let it play through once without playing any particular song again. I had to make an exception with Father Lead Me. John, I played that five times before I could move on and listen to the remainder of the CD. The entire song is great, but the ending makes it sublime. I love the Song for Mother--extremely endearing. I had to chuckle when I heard Sparrow, because (as a teenager) I use to hear that song in my head with a rock steady beat. It was fun to hear it. I have played the album several times. Your album is inspiring to me--spiritually and personally. By the way, the secret track is one of my favourite songs from childhood. Your album makes me want to create.... Thank you for that. Be well.
