A poet's ear for language and a penchant for the absurdity ...
author: Susan Clarke
A poet's ear for language and a penchant for the absurdity in every day life set, "Ms. Hooker is Running Free", apart from the contemporary singer-songwriter pack. The album's title track takes a potentially heavy topic -- the price to be paid for love -- and gives it a wry, playfully cynical treatment with country waltz timing and bursts of Dylanesque harmonica. The track, "We'll Get Through It", explores a more bluesy style while China recites couplets reflecting on the incredible amount of adversity people survive every day. Like each song on the CD, China's unique take on the world and his unique voice as a poet make a lasting impression.

Shades of Dylan and Arlo Guthrie
author: Dennis N. Kahler
This CD consists of four songs. Shades of Dylan and Arlo Guthrie ... free flowing, if the music arrangement calls for a longer lyrical line, the syllables are strecthed in a pleasing treat ... No worry here in Freedom Is Unstoppable about rhyming or following the rules of songwrirting! As does Dylan, Nick has ignored those precepts ... and gotten away with it! As I said, shades of Dylan and Guthrie here. There are elements of humor blended with serious messages, to the extent I find myself wodering WHOM Nick is laughing at/with ... This CD goes in my car, so I can listen to it over and over ... I expect I'll be drawing new surprises and surmises every time I hear it again!

Folk rock. Heartfelt male vox (with an obvious but not overbearing affection for Dylan) over some excellent yet understated arrangements. The touch of humor provides the right lightness. Good production, package. Four songs.

The name of this CD can catch you off guard.
author: Alice M. Harnisch - Fitchie
The name of this CD can catch you off guard. Yet, it really has an upbeat message. It has some real interesting lyrics that can amuse the senses in anyone who takes the time to listen to this volume of music. It has a style of the folk music of the sixties, and fans of that music will be singing all the tunes of this album. The music uplifts you, and then before you know it, it is over, and you have to start up playing it all over again. I give this CD 4 stars for great effort, interesting music, and a very amusing, lighthearted message.
