Album Notes

Nicola Gordon, singer/songwriter, is at it again with engineer and producer Robinson Eikenberry, recording her third CD of acoustic modern folk. '2 Cranes' was mastered at the Mastering Lab in Hollywood, by Garvin Lurssen(oh Brother, Where Art Thou). 12 songs stretching the gamut from intimate to universal, rowdy to sacred, Nicola wields a constant eye on life and celebrates all the angles and angels therein. Wide Load is a rowdy song written with a swearing truck driver's mindset, playing with road rage and the darker aspect travel in the modern world. On the other end of the spectrum is "Om", the artist's own rendition of the sacred yogic chant 'Om nama Shivaya".

Nicola has been studying to be a life coach for the past three years with the Hendricks Foundation in Ojai and now is actively coaching people to find more joy and ease in their life and relationships. This exploration shows up in her songs. In "Stories" she expounds on the different trips we often lay on ourselves as we go about our lives: "I am different, I am special, I am stupid, I am mad..." "who am I beyond these stories?" In More Love, Nicola sings about how we often sabotage ourselves unconsciously at many turns, just to stay in familiar (though unproductive and sometimes downright painful) territory.

No drums on this disc, more pared down; not unlike the many home concerts that Nicola puts on around California. Her own guitar, the amazing keyboards of D. Malcolm Anderson, and the ever-playful bass of Bruce Winter support Nicola's clear and soaring voice. There are also cameo performances from many amazing artists: Pat Milliken, Lorna Hunt, Alastair Greene, David Cowan, and Jeff Pevar(the P in David Crosby's CPR).
After 3 CDs does it get easier? You bet, there's nothing like the creative process and sharing it with others. Check out her website at www.nicolagordon.com.

This CD is amazing!

Nicola's current CD reflects a new level in her songwriting and is my personal favorite. In addition to her up-tempo work, which is always fun and inspiring, I can really tap into the quieter, more complex and spiritual undercurrents of her emerging new sound...

simply beautiful!
author: Ann Bennett
Do not miss or underestimate this magical third CD from Nicola Gordon. The songs, all original, are variously pointed, soothing, sharp, funny, profound, profane and simply beautiful. Melodies and multi-layered lyrics are finely woven and memorable. At least 3 (More Love, Unlikely Angel, Keeps Comin' Back) could become classics of the poetic folk/ rock genre. The song sequence on the CD progresses from emotional nakedness to a spiritual peace that reminds us why we all need more songs like this.
