Album Notes

Enter Nicola, one fiesty ex -"Les Miserables" Broadway performer turned "Raging Soulful Rocker" on Lead Vocals & Guitars, then spice things up a bit with a groovy rhythm section comprised of Jules Rosaly(Milly y Los Vecinos) on Bass, Jim Wilgus (touted by Modern Drummer)on Drums, & Zak Rizvi (4Front) on Electric Guitars. Add to that some killer songs with catchy hooks that stick in your head, haunting guitar lines, an energy that could solar-power your entire neighborhood, no studio gimmicks, and you've got yourself one smokin' band with an unstoppable front woman for real.

Since the release of their first CD "Real", Nicola has been climbing the Billboard & MP3 charts and garnering major attention in the press, as well as getting radio airplay and TV coverage with their energy, songs and sizzling live shows. NY's Village Voice commented on Nicola's talent & undeniable energy with a description of "Jane Child via Melissa Etheridge". Nicola has been featured on ABC World News, Warner/Reprise Records site "Flypaper", MTA's "Music Under NY", VH1.com, and in WomenWhoRock & Inside Connection Magazine as well as Bob Baker's Buzz Factor. Highlight performances include Hard Rock Café's "Battle of the Bands",
Nashville's "Summerlights", Songwriter's Hall of Fame, & shows with Muzz Skillings (of "Living Colour"), Shanice, & Milly Quezada - International Merengue sensation, as well as guest appearances on Rochester's Infinity Broadcasted WCMF - 96.5 FM with "Brother Wease", the Howard Stern of the Northeast.

This sophomore release "What's The Point" marks a new exploration into the territory of deeper lyrical themes such as war, loss, cynicism, love and angst, and reveals once again Nicola's use of the musical palette of sounds and colors to paint her images with. Guitars and percussion instruments are layered subtly yet effectively to achieve this, and once again we hear the interweaving of a multitude of genres and musical styles... Rock, Soul, R&B, Latin, Folk & Alternative, all of which comprise Nicola's influences, and all of which give her that signature sound. Fans will definitely want to check out the final cut of the CD which is a special acoustic track ("Ay Ay Ay"). Oh yes, folks, this is one CD you won't want to be without.

She's the Best!

When I heard Nicola live with her acoustic guitar I was completely captivated and didn't think I wanted her CDs with full band ... but I have two of her CDs so far and am crazy about them. The whole band is fantastic. All the songs on here are great, but "One Little Girl" really rocks and I love the lyrics. "I Don't Know" is beautiful, powerful and haunting. Her voice is absolutely stunning in "Ay Ay Ay," which also is playful and sexy and brings out her multiple talents (her wonderful guitar work and her fluency in Spanish.) But the song "How" is coming with me to the desert island. I can play it twenty times in a row and never tire of it. Breathtaking!

Nicola superbly mixes rock with acoustic and Latin influences.

At only nine tracks long it barely makes the 30 minutes mark, however on this evidence 30 minutes with Nicola is more satisfying than an hour with most! It opens strongly with “One Little Girl, a great rock based track, and just keeps going from there. The more Latin influenced tracks “Senorita” and “Ay Ay Ay” are both excellent, and on the latter she shows she is more than capable of performing with just an acoustic backing on this terrific sultry sounding number. Personal favourite however is the witty and somewhat cutting “Bitch”. Nicola has a wonderfully strong warm voice, although at times there is a certain vulnerability to it that trickles through that really helps to enrich the songs.

This is my first CD of Nicola and I must say I am sold!!! What an awesome sound. The CD shows how apparent her talent is. I especially like tracks 3 and 4. I will be ordering more CD's in the future. Unlike some of the "teenie bopper" music with the one hit wonders....this CD is loaded with quality music. Every song is a hit!
