Album Notes

Meet Nicola

“…Adroit new presence…unadulterated pop/rock mastery…”Billboard Magazine

“I picked up a guitar when I was seven years old and told my dad: This is exactly what I want to do.” And Nicola hasn’t put her guitar down since.

Traveling the world’s greatest music cafes and venues, Nicola’s compelling soul-rock sound has captivated the entertainment industry and fans worldwide. In a short five years, Nicola has put out three full-length, internationally distributed, independent albums; catching the attention of every major media channel, with her five piece brilliant band. A singer, songwriter, musician and trained dancer, Nicola’s pitch-perfect vocals and deep-rooted lyrics are ripe with conviction.

“I never set about to convey a specific image or message in my music regarding politics, love, loss, angst or humor, and yet those themes are always at the helm of my writing and my thinking. I’m a terribly undisciplined writer in the sense that I’m very erratic and impulsive. I don’t write every day. Never have. But when I do, I can spontaneously spin out several songs in one day. It’s like I get on some emotional roll and the songs just seem to write themselves. I write what I hear, what I see, what I feel. If something moves me, I can’t let it go. I just have to write it down.”

Nicola’s infectious music has been sweeping the press. She has been featured in the National Songwriters Hall of Fame, Billboard, WomenWhoRock, Inside Connection, Glide, TimeOut London, TimeOut NY, New York Cool, The Village Voice, Outwords, Long Island Entertainment, Go NYC, Punk Globe, Songwriter Universe, The Deli and in newspapers across the globe.

Nicola has also been on over a dozen documentaries, and some of the hottest television stations and Websites including, MTV, VH1.com, NBC Primetime News, ABC World News, Warner/Reprise Records site: Flypaper, MTA's Music Under NY, Powergig.com, Indie-News.com and on Altarnative.com. Additionally, Nicola’s music is also in radio rotation on college and FM stations nationwide.

A native New Yorker, educated at The LaGuardia School of Arts, Nicola’s whole life has been about her art. And her talents have taken her from the Broadway stage to Madison Square Garden. Having once lived in Argentina and finding a home with a blues band, some of her earliest shows were at South American bars and clubs. Heavily influenced by the music of iconic acts, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Prince, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam and U2, she later found herself at the forefront of her own riveting band. Her exhilarating live shows are an embodiment of the incredibly cultured and sophisticated artist—Nicola.

Incorporating all of her talents on stage; playing the keyboard and guitar to impressing the audience with her Flamenco dance training, Nicola delivers each enchanting minute of her set. Her tight band, made up of bassist Jules Rosaly and seasoned rockers Eric Seiz, John Clancy, and Ray "El Chino" Diaz, merges a sultry blend of dark Pop, Rock, Reggae, R&B and Alternative music. Plugged into an amp, or alone in NYC’s Penn Station with her acoustic guitar in hand, Nicola is rock-solid and sexy every single time.

“My best songs always seem to be born out of the darkest hours of despair, but somehow they all contain a through-line of hope. If you don’t have hope, what else is there in life?”

The heart of Hot Cherry Records, Nicola and her independent team single handedly created an in-demand, sought-after musician. After releasing past successful LPs, Real, What’s the Point and Don’t Take it Personally, Nicola is dropping a remixed and mastered, deluxe edition of Don’t Take it Personally. The reinvented senior album includes new songs produced by Marc Copely, her anticipated radio single, Anybody Out There and a music video of her smash hit, Lighthouse.

Nicola won’t be taking a backseat anytime soon. This is just the beginning.

“…Intriguing blend of Alterno Pop, Rock, Soul & Urban…”
TimeOut - London

“…Talented modern rock singer/songwriter…distinctive sound…”
Songwriter Universe Magazine

“…Powerfully confident…a future superstar…creating something truly exciting…”
Glide Magazine

Splendid CD

The song that opens this super collection of music “Is there Anybody Out There” I believe as a listener of the CD that Song Title could be reversed and we could ask the question “ Nicola Where have you been and How come I’m not hearing you in heavy rotation air play ? These 12 songs run the gambit of all genre of musical taste. Blues / Jazz / Rock / Dance and even some horns mixed it giving it a light mariachi feel. And Songwriting How could you go wrong with writing such as “ I Live on Power Bars and Drink Red Bull and wonder why I’m never Full” from “ Number One Fan” ? Vocals on the ballads are southing and gentle. On the harder stuff like “My Name Ain’t Mary “ Nicola could hold her own against any other female vocalist that would include Pink ,Pat Benatar , Gwen Stefani and even Steve Nicks. So if your looking for something that will keep your attention, something to blast in your convertible or open window car as you cruise down the street this is it. And I would not worry about getting into any trouble if you are pulled over by police it will not be for blasting your CD Player it will be the officer asking “Who is that and where can I get a Copy”

The Amazing Nicola

I couldn't forget Nicola after hearing her in Union Square station last winter. At first I thought it was recorded Aretha, then could hardly believe such a talented performer was singing in the subway. I was running and took her card, wanting to hear more. Finally caught her again and now I can't stop listening to this CD. The songs are fantastic -- I mean EVERY song on it -- and the band sounds great, but that voice ... Nicola's voice is gorgeous. Raw, powerful and emotional; smooth and lovely. Every time I play this CD I discover something new and different in her voice and her songs. She seems to sing from a world of depth and experience. This is strong, beautiful music. I didn't think it could compare to Nicola's live solo performance -- she's also a skillful guitarist -- but I'm crazy about it. Excellent, excellent CD.
