Born in Brussels, Belgium and raised in the United States, Nicole Milner began studying classical piano at age seven. She is a graduate of the New York High School of Music and Art. She also studied at Tanglewood Music School and Juilliard Conservatory.
Nicole Milner's lifelong interest in music has blossomed with her understanding of its capacity to provide solace and comfort and to create a serene setting that inspires contemplation and encourages healing. During her career, she began exploring these aspects through composition and improvisation on the piano, developing a fluid blend of classical, world and folk music influences to create uniquely personal and meditative origianl works.
For more than 35 years, Nicole Milner has performed her compositions in concert halls, retreat centers, conferences and Bread and Roses programs. She has performed in California, Mexico, Japan and Europe. She has written innovative scores for theatrical productions, film, video, dance and multimedia events. Her choral song for children, "Peaceful World" (available on CDBaby), was selected as the United States winner in the 1979 UNICEF-sponsored New Children's Songs Competition and was published in Switzerland on LP, cassette and book formats. Nicole's original songs and compositions have been performed and recorded by a variety of artists. Since earning a Master'' degree in Social Work in 1982, she has also worked with other professionals in music therapy and related healing modalities.
Nicole Milner coproduced her first release "Rites Of The Dolphin" in 1987 with Ishtar, a trio of piano, sarod and cello. In 1989, she founded MOSAIC, a group of women composers who perform their music in concert several times a year. Her solo piano recording "North Coast", released in 1989, was reissued as a CD in 1997. "Free Association", a CD which features Nicole performing her original compositions on solo piano, was released in 1997. She wrote the song "It's A Joy To Get To Know You" that was recorded and is currently performed by Shaina Noll. In 2001, she re-released the song "Peaceful World" on the compilation CD with the same name to benefit UNICEF. In 2007, the film "Multiply By Six Million: Portraits and Stories of Holocaust Survivors" was released, featuring photographs by Evvy Eisen and an original solo piano score by Nicole Milner, herself a survivor of the Holocaust.
