Album Notes

You are now in the WRIGHT place...At the WRIGHT time...To witness to a hip-hop/house/R&B/soul/gospel/rock experience...
And an artist on FIRE.
Unsigned indie producer/singer/songwriter, Nicole WRIGHT, flames it all out on her upcoming independently released debut album FIRE with scorching dance tracks, slow burn R&B and soul-on-fire inspirational tracks, showcasing a vocal power and presence, compared to the likes of Chaka, Teena Marie, Whitney, Mary J, yet uniquely and individually her own..
A self-taught musician, Nicole co-wrote and co-produced FIRE, collaborating with a group of the hottest writer/producers. She was born in Staten Island, New York but took flight early on, growing up transcontinental between the US and France, the Netherlands and Belgium, as the daughter of rock royalty, Ernest Wright, member of the legendary soul/pop group, "Little Anthony and the Imperials", whose hit records include American music standards such as "Going Out of My Head", "Hurt So Bad" and "Shimmy Shimmy Coco Bop". The Imperials set the clean and polished standard for groups such as the Temptations, the Isley Bros and the Miracles and such artists as Luther Vandross and New Edition have covered their hits. With such a musical legacy so strong in the bloodline, for Nicole there could be only one logical life direction, one vocation to follow...
Nicole's formative years as a performer were spent on stage touring with her father throughout Europe, South America, Africa and the Caribbean as a member of TOP 40 vocal groups he formed during an absence from the Imperials, where Nicole polished her performance and linguistic skills (she is fluent in French and Spanish) doing 150-200 shows a year. During downtime on the road, she taught herself to play the guitar, developed her songwriting skills, and built an extensive catalog of music, becoming a prolific writer. The blessing of growing up in a musical household where artistic expression was encouraged and nurtured exposed her to the full spectrum of styles that colored her artistic world--- she counts Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Hall & Oates, U2, Sade, Prince, Marvin Gaye, StevieWonder and Whitney Houston among her strongest influences.

The flavors of these influences can be heard on FIRE, a groundbreaking evolution of tracks, which came together over a two-year period, inspired by the rhythm of the urban groove and by life changing personal and universal journeys through love, loss, faith and transcendence. While working on the CD, Nicole worked 9-5 building a career in the fashion industry, moving quickly up the corporate ladder as a young executive. But the performance drive was too strong and she could never stay away from the music, so she satisfied her thirst singing in churches throughout NY, NJ and PA as a gospel soloist, appearing with the top wedding/event bands in NYC as a featured performer and did background vocal sessions for various artists, while spending nights and weekends in the studio, working again with her father to bring her dream to life. She assembled some of the top musicians working, her band FEVER DREAM, and scorched the stage when she hit the local club and festival circuit, playing New York City venues such as BB Kings, the Soul Café, the Lion's Den, Kenny's Castaways and the Bitter End. She turned the heat up winning the new music competition at Nell's nightclub and moving to the finals of VH1's Born to Diva competition (out singing 3000 aspiring vocalists!). And she has only just begun to do what she was born to do...
Now, she is on FIRE --- from "Do It", a slick, infectious hip-hop joint sure to make you bounce... to "Better Way", a woman's passionate attempt to save her sister from heartache... to "Get Away", a sexy, honey-dipped invitation to a lovers escape...to "Question?" a blazing rock & soul stream of social consciousness...to "His Days Coming", a hard-hitting soul masterpiece calling to prepare for the coming of the Savior...and finally, to "Here Comes the Sun", her signature show closer and women's club anthem about the power of love and faith...the 13 tracks flows freely from the joys of hedonistic pleasure to the transcendence of spiritual redemption. Nicole considers this album "all of me -- my story, my life, my joy, my pain and my truth that I hope will speak truth to the souls of my listeners".

REVIEWS

Excellent Production... Outstanding Vocal Performance!

This young lady can flat out sing and the CD as a whole is a very pleasant listen. There are three tracks I want to concentrate my comments on... Number one, Question has vocal flavor equal to one of Two Brothers Recordings artist Renee, Flavor Of The Day, passionate without being over the top... Clean vocals... Then there's Promise, a contempory jazz flavored track with smooth jazzy vocals... Soft, yet full of emotion! Then the standout track for me, Better Way... excellent vocal control, crisp and filled to the brim with soulful flavor of days gone by yet perfectly fitting todays style... In other words, a track that is and or will be timeless... Just as good on the third listen as it was on the first. She has a hint of Teena Marie in her vocal flavor on this track. All in all a worthy debut CD.

Nicole Wright: Fire Soul/R&B/Gospel/ Hip Hop NYC native and Indy artist Nicole Wright's new CD called Fire is a mixed bag that fuses together Soul, Dance, Gospel, Hip Hop and Neo Soul in a very listable pop music mix. For example the album gets off to a rousing start with a slamin song called "Do It" which is modern day update to 70's classics "Do It Anyway Ya Wanna" (Peoples Choice) and "Do It Fluid" (BlackByrds). Other strong tracks on this album include: We Can Share the Love, Ladies Anthem, Something About You, Long Ride, Lift Them Up, Here Comes the Sun. Reaching back to the "old school" for inspiration should come as no surprise since Nicole is the daughter of Ernest Wright of the legendary Rock/Soul/Doo Wop pioneers Little Anthony and the Imperials. Overall this music is uplifting and positive, frequently bouncing back and forth between the secular and the sacred. In addition on her website Nicole counts artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Hall & Oates, U2, Sade, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston as her influences.

Do your thing Ms. Wright! I did come to this site at the WRIGHT time. I'm from Queens, NY. It's nothing like supporting your fellow states people. I really love "Better Way" and "Something About You." As a lyricist, I can appreciate words when they are captured with the write background sound. You are going far and you are going to touch lots of people. Visit my site when you get a chance. Maybe we can collaborate someday!
