Night Train was born from a group of local musicians in a large workshop where they honed their sound into an eclectic set of styles ranging from blues to rockabilly to funk and yes, even country. After taking their show on the road for a couple years, where they worked out their first few original tunes, they decided to take it to the studio. After months of rehearsing what would eventually become their first CD, "Blowin' Smoke", they were ready to lay down tracks. Each song on this album is a Night Train original with John Freel, Mark Tuttle, and Alan Hall sharing the song writing duties.
A blues/rockabilly style is evident on "Boys Toys", "Legs for Days", and "Good Thing Goin'". "Time Ain't On My Side" shows the band's country side. There's a hint of good old time rock with a surf-style rhythm on "You Don't Listen", a song that was often requested at live shows. "Blowin' Smoke", the title track, was inspired by the usual guy at the bar who knows a little bit of everything and is only really happy when he can share it all with everyone around…whether they want to hear it or not. “Hardtime Blues” tells a true, local story in the wake of an air base closure.
The band:
John Freel: bass, vocals
Mark Tuttle: guitar, vocals
Alan Hall: guitar, vocals
Greg Merino: drums
John Freel and Mark Tuttle also play currently in a band called The Midnight Flyers. Check them out at www.themidnightflyers.net, and here at CD Baby as well!
