Emotionally evocative songwriter that holds you captive with a voice that signs, seals and delivers....this is Niki Duncan.
Likened to Patti Griffin with a touch of Aretha, Niki backdrops her soulful songs in an ambling, moody, dynamic sometimes sonic country/rock melee similar to that of the Cowboy Junkies, Calexico, or even a little Radiohead.

Born in the rural bayous of Louisiana, Niki came into the world with all the intensity she infuses into her music, she was born in a blackout during a hurricane which only seems a fitting backdrop for the this musical force of nature. Raised outside of Houston and then transplanted to Austin in 1986, she has performed in Austin in many different band configurations over the last ten years and has now honed her songwriting for her own project, Niki Duncan's Extraordinary Universe. She is currently recording her second record set for release in the Spring of 2004.

"So many times I've had folks come up to me after a show, sort of awestruck and say, ....you gave me chills or you made me cry....and in the back of my mind I'm thinking, Good job! I was able to recreate that place I felt when I was moved to write the song and share that with someone else. That's a powerful place to take someone and to be able touch other peoples lives with my lifes experience, sorting out all the messy details and reveling in the joy is why I do this, for the connection."
