True talent and pure artistry exist when one expertly crafts thoughtful verse with compelling music, and skillfully delivers it with passion. It speaks directly to the soul and needs no spin or hyperbole. Nimat; a singer, songwriter and musician whose sound possesses a transparent, raw beauty offered without pretense or cliché. Born the youngest of twelve children just outside of Washington D.C., in Camp Springs, Maryland, Nimat (Arabic for blessing) began writing and arranging music at the tender age of seven. By age 12 she developed her own distinct style and possessed undeniable writing and performance skills. Writing has always been a great passion for Nimat, as evidenced by the more than 200 songs she has penned, and the many tracks she has produced over the years. Once asked where her songs come from, Nimat replied, "They're just inside of me. I write about life experiences, issues, events, struggles - those things that really impact people and their lives." Nimat's musical expression represents a melodic synergy of soul and rock to create a refreshing, unique sound that embodies the depth and breadth of the multiple genres that influence her music. Her signature, eclectic-soul sound is characterized by a fusion of bluesy lyrics, rock melodies, and rich soulful rhythms, full of mood and emotion. Influenced by musical pioneers, Sarah Vaughn, Bob Marley and Tina Turner, Nimat has often been likened to gifted, more recent artists, Lauryn Hill, Tracy Chapman and India Arie.
