ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
New Studio album by the Nines, features collaborations with Bleu (L.E.O), Jason Falkner (the Grays, Jellyfish), Joao Carvalho (Sloan) and many other pop artists.

Back Story: The first Nines LP, Wonderworld of Colourful, came out in Canada in 1998 on the Bare Naked Ladies’ Page label and was distributed through EMI. Later that year, Universal Music Canada released a piano-based four-song EP. This preliminary version of the band was sufficiently appealing to connect with the pop underground and top the Canadian college chart, but, as Eggers readily admits, the Nines were then still very much a work in progress. Still, this initial studio foray did offer a tantalizing glimpse of the young artist’s potential. The second Nines lineup cut Properties of Sound, released in North America in 2001 (Airmail Recordings picked up the album in Japan a year later). Additionally, several of Eggers’ songs wound up on network TV series, including Dawson's Creek, Party of Five and Joan of Arcadia (and most recently the theme song for Global Television's comedy sitcom "The Jane Show"). Picking up where the Beatles left off is a big challenge, but it can be done, as XTC, Jellyfish and Spoon have proved. The Nines belong in that rarefied company.

" Steve Eggers has crafted a timeless album full of catchy hooks, superb production, and great playing... Gran Jukle's Field is one of the best albums of the year" - Keyboard Magazine

“ It seems that whenever a songwriter or band releases an album filled with uplifting melodies and pop hooks...a comparison to the Beatles is bandied about much like the weather between two strangers. Oftentimes the reference is ill-suited and convenient, but there is the odd occasion when it truly fits, which is certainly the case for the Toronto-based pop outfit, the Nines." – Inside Entertainment Magazine

Jean-Matthieu Quintard

Best Nines record to date !
Great tunes as usual, melodies to die for, an XTC/Macca fan like myself is in Pop Heaven when listening to Virginia, Eileen or the title track to name but a few. Their best and most colourful record. Steve Eggers is up there with Partridge & co. !

Amazing
Distills everything that was great about music in the 70s and filters out everything that was horrible. Great, great, great. And also great!

Bonne nouvelle (depuis Nouméa)
Je ne peux rien écrire de mieux que ce qu'écrit Jean-Matthieu Quintard, bien sûr.

Melodic pop bliss
For all these years I've wondered "where did all the great catchy pop music go?" Now I know. Fantastic stuff!

Bingo

Powering U The Pop Machine
A new discovery, via myspace recommendations, the Nines breath the same rarified pop air as late period XTC, ELO, Wings and the mighty Pugwash. This is a record full of beautifully crafted uptempo rockers and smart ballads. Steve Eggers voice is a spit for Macca, circa mid 70's, and on tracks such as 'Insanity'and 'Don't Be A Fool' he prooves to be every bit the equal of his hero's. With the likes of The Feeling hitting the big time in the UK this could be the recrod to break The Nines. A great discovery.

Brilliant!
Of all their albums this is the most varied.Every song is a gem though. Eggers has developed his song writing with every album and I already look forward to the next one. The cover is very nice too.Recommended to every true pop fan!
