Album Notes

Six jug bands and a solo performer gathered to produce these tunes, which were selected from more than 150 songs that they recorded live in concert at the National Jug Band Jubilee.

Jug band music is a 19th century creation of creative and talented African American bands that flourished in the 1920s. Three of the bands on this album have been performing since jug band music\'s return to popularity in the 1960s, while most members of the other bands were children or not yet born in that era.

Together, they are a lively, spirited group who pop the cork in an uninhibited celebration of America\'s Happiest Music through a variety of early American jazz and novelty music styles.
