Jug band music is a fast-paced and funny American original now popular around the world, particularly in Japan. Many believe this century-old music style was originated by African Americans in Louisville, Kentucky, where the National Jug Band Jubilee is now staged.
Each of the five bands that collaborated on the Jubilee and this two-CD album plays in its own unique and quickly distinguishable style, but all are loyal to the jug band tradition of jug blowing and related novelty and homemade instruments to create a sound different from all other forms of music.
They are the Juggernaut Jug Band, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Cincinnati Dancing Pigs, Dirdy Birdies Jug Band and Washboard Slim & the Blue Lights.
Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops is co-author of "Two-Timin' Loser" which was recorded for the first time in this album. She is an opera-educated soprano skilled at playing banjo, fiddle, kazoo--and sometimes jug.
Fun is the ultimate objective of jug band music. It reduces stress. If you are not happy and grinning after listening to this album, see your shrink! In that spirit, if you STILL aren't happy, return the unused portion of the album and National Jug Band Jubilee will return the unused portion of your money. Oops! It's already been used.

FUN
author: Frank Worpenberg
If you are looking for music to make you smile, this is what you need. 5 different jug bands, each with its own style. I enjoyed every minute of this one. Just remember that when listening to jug band music, the drunker you get the better they sound! (I stole that one from Eric of the Cincinnati Dancing Pigs.)

Great representation of jug band music's breadth and depth.
author: Wayne Hagen, International Jug Band Festival organizer
What a wonderful CD album! Sounds great, well-recorded and catches the fun of the festival. Not only is each band experienced and talented but they are distinctly different from each other. The album is a great representation of the breadth and depth of jug band music. Thanks for the Jubilee and this recording of the event.
