mo*sa*ic NOUN:
A composite picture made of overlapping, usually aerial, photographs.
Mosaic, an instrumental group that dazzled audiences in the greater Los Angeles area throughout the late Eighties and early Nineties.
Anyone hearing this group of newcomers to LA's waning live music scene knew that something special was brewing. The group calls its unique fusion of hiphop, jazz, rock, and R&B, with rhythms from Africa, India, South America and the Middle East, as eclectic world beat jazz. Apropos indeed.
Influenced by Weather Report, Yellowjackets, and the Pat Metheny Group, as well as Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Genesis, the group chose to place emphasis on composition rather than instrumental pyrotechnics that mark other bands from this era. Their group compositional style became a hallmark. Just give a listen to "Evolution," which takes the listener on an unforgettable musical joy ride.
In 1993, the group signed with Verve/PolyGram.
Now, this remarkable self produced debut CD is available.
Guests on this record include Luis Conte [percussion] and Tony Lujan [trumpet].

This CD funks furiously on the openning cut "The Ambassador"! There are some fantastic songs in this collection. The musicianship is first rate. I love this CD! I recommend buying it to anyone reading this. I found this disc just surfing. You just don't find CDs this good everyday.
