notes
Nathan has found his passion performing solo acoustic guitar. Influenced by an array of musicians, he fused many styles including jazz, blues, funk, rock, finger style, and classical to create his new sound. The mood ranges from a hungry rage to a sensuous romance, tapping into every emotion in between.
To see a live performance is spectacular, truly full of energy and animation. He plays with fierce intensity, disregarding traditional playing. The music is polyphonic; many intricate parts including melody, harmonic progressions, bass lines, as well as, percussion all performed simultaneously. He is obsessed - bending and pulling, banging and tapping, plucking and strumming the guitar, stretching its capabilities.
Nathan started playing guitar with the inspiration and guidance from his Dad at the age of 9. Since then he has participated in numerous school band programs ranging from elementary to college. After years of practice, and awarded a full scholarship, Nathan attended Wayne State University, graduating in 2002, with a bachelors in Jazz Performance.
Nathan is the director of the guitar program at Arts Academy in the Woods high school in Fraser, MI. The curriculum includes theory, technique, writing and arranging, creative thinking and much more. For more information about AAW visit www.artsacademy-woods.org

Hands that speak the voice of God
author: Brian J. StaffordThis is an absolutely amazing album! I have had the privelege of sharing a stage with Nathan (ok it was only an open mic stage, but we shared it) in Birmingham, MI. and it's mesmorizing to watch him play. His hands glide over the strings with such ease... plucking and tapping with both hands. If you get no other CDs, get these
Melodic, harmonic astoundery abounds
author: BaggyboyThis man must have at least 6 hands with no fewer than 12 fingers on each hand! He can ping a harmonic in the middle of the most impossible phrases. Original rythmic devices overflow from this CD. Simply magical sound. This album seems mellower than "2-5 Jive" but still retains the trademark Montgomery vibe and energy. Enjoy!
Impressive
author: Sara FournierThe music speaks for itself if you just listen. The patterning is very unique and nothing like you've ever heard. He plays with all his heart, and even in the absence of words every feeling and thought is still there.
Propulsively rhythmic, yet melodic, he’s a mojo string machine.
author: Jere Stormer of WDET-FM 101.9Propulsively rhythmic, yet melodic, he’s a mojo string machine! Nathan Montgomery succeeds in a big way on this totally solo acoustic guitar CD with massively cool guitar riffs always imply melodies even when crunching out a brutally savage rhythm track. The opening track Happy With You is inviting and open chorded while Three Shades of Black drills down to a dark but thoughtful mood, then gets funky. Groove Thing is yet another stellar cut.
My favorite music to listen to at 3 AM.
author: LaurieI am extremely impressed and love this CD. Nathan is awesome, to say the least. His passion for his music is outstanding!! As well as all the other things he does for so many people. I hope he'll sign my CD when we meet one day. Rock On!! A.A.W. loves Mr. Montgomery!!!
Wow this is amazing
author: Aly WieczNate is one of the best guitarists I've ever seen or heard in my life. He is truly skilled. being a student I've seen him play alot he is a great mentor to me and the other kids at school. I thought Jimi hendrix was good Nate's ten times better than him. Wow just wow.
Groovy, smooth and brilliant!
author: KamroseOnly ten fingers? This disk is good for in the car, in the house or for a special treat on the iPod listening to every note. Thanks to Mr. Montgomery's preview at Music in the Park in Plymouth. I'd love to see him live again! Buy this disk, you won't be disappointed!
This CD rocks and it rolls.
author: George RamseySometimes I forget that there is only one person playing on one instrument in one session! Each time I listen to this CD, I hear something new that strikes a new emotional or nostalgic cord in me. It always seems to capture a different mood, real or sunreal, triggering varying emotions, some of which, I didn't know I had.
