The Doubt of the Benefit is the second release from Noah Gokey and the follow up to his 2005 self-titled 17-song album, Noah Gokey. All of the songs were written by Noah Gokey during the years since that release and performed extensively throughout the Western New York region, primarily Buffalo, NY.
Although this is a thematic concept album, the order of the tracks is not vital to the expression, as evidenced by the fact that all of the tracks are listed in alphabetical order except for the final track, Don't Reach Out. This song was originally released as the final track to the 2005 release, however in a different style termed on that album to be "Live Rain". This take is paradoxically intended to be the original and authoritative version of the song, even if another take was already released five years ago.
The lack of importance ascribed to the ordering of the tracks is purposeful, as it is meant to represent the importance within each small piece of the flurry of information and communication people of the world are bombarded with constantly in this modern life. With that in mind, each song is a microcosm of the album as a whole, while the album as a whole enriches the possible understanding of each individual song. There is no common lyrical or musical link between the songs, only the theme being the common ingredient. The world is a complicated place and everyone in it can only experience a small piece of it at any time. However, in Noah Gokey's vision, each piece is representative of the whole, and a common identity is found in every sliver, no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential.
This album was recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced during June and July 2009 at DrastiClone Studios in Niagara Falls, NY.
