Are you curious what might happen if Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind took over singing duties for Kurt Cobain in Nirvana or Layne Staley in Alice in Chains? The result would sound something like "Pull the Plug," the breakout EP from Silver Spring, Maryland's No Compromise.
Better known as NoCo, this alt rock trio takes it cues from classic alternative acts like Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Green Day, and Third Eye Blind while also delving into some heavier territory along the lines of Nickelback, Three Days Grace, and Tool.
The sound has been described as fusing driving rhythms with catchy guitar lines and pop-oriented vocals, but its main strength is diversity. If you ever get tired of bands with songs which sound exactly the same on a CD from track 1 to 12, this is the CD you've been waiting for.
When you purchase this album the beefy guitar riffs and catchy vocal melodies will have you nodding your head and singing along in no time at all!
What are people saying about the album?
"This EP is very impressive. The sound is heavy enough to appeal to fans of grunge, but with vocals that are more power-pop oriented. It's a good mixture, and the band sounds very tight and confident. Don't be surprised if No Compromise becomes the next big thing in old-school alternative rock." - David Schrimpf (Jefitoblog/Popdose)
"Solid and pleasing performances from all three musicians and a very good mix of music make this a standout release for '07. Very highly recommended!!!" - Craig "Bam-Bam" Stegall (Away Team)
"The former Terps — bassist Justin Fry, axman Jack Kwait-Blank, and William Bowen on the skins — are tall, frosty mugs of guitar rock with stiff grunge chasers. The resulting buzz sends the room spinning and the ears bleeding. It's good." - The Silver Spring Penguin

Strong alternative with an interest worth taking in

This band shows the ability to work hard to shape a song into a worthy rock anthem. Aloud to Me definitely is one of those 'sing it in the crowd with the band songs' that has everyone on their feet, well constructed. The whole EP is high energy. I especially like what NoCo did with the last track, starting out with a nice piano with the lyric, and then all the sudden turning on the switch into high gear. All the songs are good on here, but I think Aloud to Me is the catchiest. Worth having!

Glad to see my hometown of Maryland is still pumping out talented bands like it did back in the glorious 80’s! Alt-Rockers No Compromise bring a fresh approach to radio-driven rock by dipping into solid bags of tricks used by bands like The Red Hot Chilipeppers, Third-Eye Blind, and Foo Fighters while mixing things up a bit with clever guitar riffs and unique drum and bass runs. Vocally, this one hits between the aforementioned Chilipeppers and 3EB, but there’s some interesting gang vocals on tunes like “For The Institution” and “So Hot (Water Level’s Rising)” that add a bit more dimension to NOCO’s sound, plus the guitar solos are leaps above anything you’ll hear nowadays. My only complaint is that the boys should have gone ahead and scraped the money together to produce a full-length album to showcase all the talent they managed to cram into these four songs. Solid and pleasing performances from all three musicians and a very good mix of music make this a standout release for ’07. Check them out online at WWW.NOCOROCK.COM and purchase a copy of this stellar release there as well. Very Highly Recommended!!!

A fresh sound to an oldschool genre
author: Shady
This EP has great variety. It opens up with a swanky lounge sound with a nice kick and steady flow. Musically these guys have a similar range like Smashing Pumpkins.. They play what they want, when they want, and it always rocks. If you have a sub, turn it up for So Hot! They put some really sweet lows in there that come through great. Lyrically, most of the songs are average. Musically, you'll have this EP on repeat in your CD player for a long time. Rock on guys!
