Biography
The Noel Prior Band formed at the start of 2006 following the completion of Noel’s second solo record, Outside In. Joined by Rob Carter on bass and Liam Jolly on drums, the band quickly became an established live act, scoring a much lauded support slot with Alex Parks after having only been together three weeks.
Propelled by excited and positive reactions from both the local media and new fans, the band went on to showcase their set in Solo Music, where one innocent punter stuck his head round the door to exclaim, “is that Jack Johnson?” However, the Noel Prior Band offer something more than dreamy “surf-rock”, as they proved at their album launch party and subsequent live performances.
Despite only having been together two months, the band has a dynamic that belies chronology. This is clear in their music - from lush experimentation on record to a raucous and powerful live performance.
“Outside In…is a breezy jazzy joy.” – Lee Trewhela, The West Briton
“Their energy, thrilling live dynamic and juxtaposition of spry guitar and wistful lyrics spread a smile faster than infection.” – Laura Snapes, The West Briton

Their first album since becoming a collective is everything Jack Johnson hopefully wishes he could be, with frank, wistful lyrics shrouded in sparkling guitar (Citizens Advice, My Little Fix), a tinge of Rubber Soul-era Beatles (Trewin, Pearly Eye), and a strong helping of spine and soul to replace that trite ukulele. It’s more than an album of songs about the beach, and live, gets transformed into something mesmeric, yet strong. And unlike a certain miserable Swede, it has real balls instead of computer generated ones…
