Capturing the spirit of the '20s blues, these classic songs are reborn in a contemporary way. Singer/songwriter/pianist, Dianne Nola, includes three original songs (Free, Pocketful Of Blue, Garbage Man) of this genre in addition to spacious ballads dipped in jazz.
Whimsical horns are performed by Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, The B-52's, Elvis Costello) while Jimmy Sweetwater (JimBo Trout & the Fishpeople, Poor Man's Whiskey, JL Stiles) embellishes on harmonica and washboard.
Dianne Nola's lyrics range from silly to desperate to heartbroken to empowered. Featuring the forgotten art of tap dancing (by Nola), this unique album provides a memorable experience.

'Queen Bee' by Dianne Nola
author: Denise Mara Meyer
“Queen Bee” is amazing. I love the tap dancing and how she makes “Someone to Watch Over Me” her own.
The CD includes several originals like “Pocketful of Blue,” (which is very Joni Mitchell “Blue” era to me).
The song showcases Dianne’s depth of emotion.
On the opposite side is the airy “Free,” with its peace and love imagery-- the sonic antidote to two wars and an on-going recession. “Garbage Man” is an instant classic. Dianne pleads with her local sanitation worker to let her sleep. Listening, one gets the impression that she was rudely awakened somewhere deep in the French Quarter.
One thing's for sure, there's a fantastic piano player in Dianne Nola's band.
