Album Notes

"World class songwriting with razor-edge performance; NO michael NO's success is assured. This career will be fun to watch" --Livingston Taylor, Singer/Sorngwriter

"The images in NO Michael NO's songs are things we've felt a thousand times but were never able to express. The lyrics do what good literary poetry is supposed to do-- lay it out, clean, surprising yet comfortable, shockingly intimate. When we listen, we are taken where good music is supposed to take us-- into and out of ourselves." --Paul Allen, Poet

The story is short-- four guys who met at Berklee College of Music in 1999 and started playing together shortly thereafter. Michael Flynn does keys, accordion, harmonica and vocals. Michael went to College of Charleston in South Carolina, where he goofed off, played in bands, and eventually defected to Boston, where he has won songwriting awards from SESAC, BMI (The John Lennon Scholarship), and Berklee itself. Josh Kaler plays guitar and sings; he's from Minnesota, and recently beat Mario Kart Special Cup on 150cc. Max Koteen plays the stand up bass and hails from California. So he must be cool. And Casey Tuck plays drums and comes from New Jersey, where he once knocked over a cymbal in perfect time at a middle school orchestra recital.

The group is currently performing all over the east coast in support of their new CD, "Music For The Flood." The record is a collection of songs that would never mix with each other at normal social gatherings, but on the CD, rollicking Guitar Rock puts its arm around a gentle Lullabye; a Country Waltz shuffles up to Beatlesque Pop and asks for a pack of matches; even the ghosts of Gershwin and Lounge Jazz show up for the free drinks. And somehow it works, everybody gets along. The songs are all distant relatives, connected by Flynn's sandpaper-meets-glass voice and some truly inspired arrangements by the band. Lyrically, the songs share a kind of awe for feeling overwhelmed, both in good ("If You've Heard This One Before") and bad ("Never Fall In Love Again") ways. Thus the album title. Still one gets the feeling that another meaning exists, that NO michael NO are creating a flood of their own. As Lockergnome.com puts it, "NO michael NO might just save the mainstream by going mainstream themselves."

REVIEWS

If these guys were girls I'd be in love.

Feeling tired? Feeling blue? If you suffer from AM, FM , TB or HIV then this brand of pop may just be the tonic for you! Pop music has been given a bad name lately with assembly line techniques used to churn out unimaginative and unoriginal music. Hey, if it works then why not do it again...for the 500th time! Well, because you would never end up with a collection of songs that's as memorable or sincere as Music For The Flood. I'll admit that when I first hear a Brittney Spears song my foot usually starts to tap but by the 1000th time I hear it I want to scream. That's the difference between mainstream and No michael NO. I can safely say that I've listened to this albumn 50 times since I purchased it and I love it 50 times more. The lyrics stay with me, the melody makes me want to sing along and the arrangments make me want to dust off my air guitar and go nuts. I'm not the kind of reviewer to say the vocals are "shimmery", or the groove is real "tight". All I know is as a songwritier I'm jealous as hell and this has become my favorite albumn. The songs are eclectic with one thing in common, they all kick ass. If you like hard core metal, this may not be your style. If you like to fold your hand into a gun shape and point it at people as you rap down the street then the same goes for you. However, if you like music that makes you jump, move around, sing and have a great time you will regret not being one of the first people on your block to own this CD. Because eventually, everyone will know these guys and your fan letter will just be one in a million. Download some songs and check them out, before long you'll have a new favorite band too.

Who's got the Big Balls Now" is a pop masterpiece.
author: Gods Of Music
Boston's "NO Michael NO" is a new and brilliant star in the pop firmament. "Who's got the Big Balls Now" is a pop masterpiece. This song is laced with catchy, sparkling hooks and I couldn't keep my toes from tapping. Its the kind of song that leaves you feeling uplifted and puts a smile on your face... Great instrumentation, especially the tasteful piano work. The bass and drums are right in the pocket, the vocals are wonderful, the rhythm guitars are dead on the money. Even though this song is the epitome of accessible pop, it doesn't compromise intelligent musical savvy for accessibility.

What a find!

I am thrilled to have received this CD as a gift from my daughter for Christmas! I am 53 years old, and this band is so appealing to me. GREAT MUSIC and LYRICS. These guys are a mix of Stephen Bishop and the Grandsons of the Pioneers - which is a huge compliment. Now to see them in person! My favorite is "Never Fall in Love Again", but it was difficult to choose. Extraordinary CD. Can't wait for the next one.
