Biography
The Northstar Session was founded in 2004 by singer-songwriter-guitarist Matt Szlachetka, and is comprised of drummer Greg Roberts, bassist Ivan Hurtado and keyboardist Todd Newman.
In less than two years, they have established a solid presence in southern California with their unique blend of rock, pop and blues. As well, the band is gaining considerable press along with local San Diego airplay on 91X FM and 94.9 FM.
The Northstar Session's newest EP, "Little Lies" was released in October 2005. Recorded and produced by John Beard (Bo Bice, Blink 182, Lucy's Fur Coat) in San Diego, "Little Lies" is quickly gaining critical acclaim across the country.
Music industry magazine, Music Connection, recently said of the band, "The Northstar Session is packed with good musicians, great songs and a passion for playing, These guys are the real thing..."
Along with playing frequently at San Diego clubs such as The Belly Up, The Casbah, Canes and the Hard Rock Cafe, the Northstar Session can also be seen in Los Angeles clubs including Tangier, The Gig and Plush Lounge. Their 2004 tour to Austin, Texas helped to further the band's momentum with feature performances at clubs such as Saxon Pub, Hole In The Wall Pub, Momo's and a live spotlight on KLBJ FM.
Their recent 2005 northeast tour included feature performances at The Lion's Den in New York City; The Middle East in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Club 218 in Philadelphia and an hour-long feature on WVBR FM in Ithaca, New York.
