Album Notes

Each steered south from the Pacific Northwest to the sunny shores of Los Angeles, the five members of Nor'wester joined forces in the Summer of 2006. Realizing a common affinity for the folk tradition, they set forth to re-expose the L.A. masses to the relevancy of traditional music. They dug deep into the canon of traditional Americana, and put their own unique spin on some well-worn and timeless tunes. Their appreciation for honest and unfettered songwriting, and an eclectic range of influences shaped the sound of their originals.

Their debut, full-length recording, features David Fine on drums, Richard Parmerter on bass; the acoustic guitar, slide guitar, and vocal stylings of Ned Hosford, lead electric guitar work by Ellis Hawes, and the whiskey-chocolate vocal finesse of Patrick Dunnam.

Nor'wester's songs, at once lighthearted in their appearance and poignant in their meaning, span a broad spectrum of style and emotion, but always stay honest.

Down-home tunes with heart that don't suck

In these uncertain times, its a great relief to hear the warm and honest versions of American folk standards that Norwester seamlessly roll out. These lively young gentlemen remind us that music is about having fun and sharing love, even when (especially when) the songs chronicle the struggles of the American working man against the institutions that seek to crush him. Norwester make music that's great for traveling, dancing, drinking, eating, laughing, bathing, and lovin'. So settle down next to a big jug with three x's on it, and see where the blues-tinged honky tonk of Norwester takes you--it'll be a great ride.

I LOVE this CD! A friend of mine listened to this on a road trip up to Northern California and said it was the perfect travelling music. Her brother ended up stealing her copy and she had to get another one. It bounced from room to room when I brought a copy to work- everyone wanted to get a chance to listen. I've barely removed the CD from play in my car- only when it is time to get the chill mood going at a party! These boys really brush off and freshen up the campfire sound. Buy this CD!!!

This is a great CD, everyone I've played this for enjoys it. Finally a band not afraid to be different, and sounds great doing it. Norwester has found their niche, in my CD player.
