Album Notes

No Souls Lost is a death metal band from Dallas Texas. Formed in Feb. 2006 with a goal of making unapologetic metal, they quickly gained local and national interest after recording the EP-These Dead Years.

Taking a stand on such issues as anti-vivisection and animal cruelty, they lyrically are able to bring more to the table than the typical death metal band. Though this is not an indication of weakness. This band's music has an intensity level matched by only a few.

They have just finished recording their first full length album entitled Eulogy Of Genocide which includes 9 tracks of brutal Texas death metal.

Review of No Souls Lost
by James aka Hopecrusher
I am at a loss with bands like this. To get the reader interested, I like to throw out at least what genre a band fits neatly into so they know from the start if it is a band they would be interested in. Bands like No Souls Lost draw from so many influences that pigeon-holing them is simply not an option. That is, in my opinion, a great thing. Both vocally and musically, No Souls Lost fuse elements of thrash, death, black and southern metal into what is, surprisingly, still a very cohesive wall of noise. Skilled is most definitely the word of the day with No Souls Lost. Not content to simply rehash what a thousand other bands before them have done, these guys go a long way toward creating a sound that they can call their own. Don't get me wrong, there probably isn't a single moment on this CD where you will stand up and go "Man, I've never heard a band do that before!" but I honestly don't think I've heard a band put the pieces together quite like No Souls Lost does. They are just different enough to stand out but still familiar enough to quickly appeal to any fan of truly heavy music, right away.

Back with a vengeance is No Souls Lost with their new full length, Eulogy of Genocide, complete with a fucking sick cover of Decapitated’s Spheres of Madness (a band I am sad to say I have never listened to). EoG is 9 tracks of spine-ripping metal that easily destroys their previously released and quite awesome demo. When last we left NSL, they were a bone-crushing amalgam of just about every style of extreme metal you could come up with. Eulogy of Genocide finds the band with a much more focused death metal vision and while I loved their jack-of-all-trades approach on the demo, this new sound suits them so much better. As I’ve said more times than I can count, Ryan Johnson is one of the best vocalists out there doing this style of music. He can get guttural without sounding like he might hock something up on you and he can go high without making you want to stab yourself in the ears. This may very well be the best stuff he’s done, to date. The same thing can be said for the rest of the band, as well. From the first guitar lick to the last drum beat, No Souls Lost is dedicated to kicking your ass. Coffin and Vaporizer go from tech-heavy speed to neck-breaking groove and make it sound easy while Tekk and Guts n’ Gore beat the rhythm into your head, nonstop. This is just one of those CDs that makes you throw your horns up on a regular basis (and consequently make you look like a jackass at work, by the way). If I am gonna nitpick something, it will be the production, but it really is nitpicking. I just wish the drums had a bit more life to them. The snare and bass just sound kinda flat to me. That’s it, though. I have nothing else remotely negative to say about this album. Thanks guys for renewing my interest in this genre, as I haven’t listened to any death metal in ages. See ya later, I am gonna go dig up my Dying Fetus CDs.
