Album Notes
“Viva La Novaks One of the best records of the year”
Stevie Van Zant of Little Steven’s Underground Garage

“Passionate enough to incite a bar brawl, yet endearing
enough to clean up the mess afterwards” Exclaim!

“They compress steady grooves, chunky guitar riffs, tasty lead licks and sweet harmonies to a diamond shine.”
Eye Weekly, Toronto

Made up of Mick Davis (vocals, guitar), Chuck Tucker (vocals, guitar), Mark Neary (vocals, bass) and Elliot Dicks (drums), The Novaks have spent the last three years converting the masses one bar room at a time. Alternating between powerful, unapologetic hooks and darker moments of soulful authenticity, they weave honored rock n’ roll traditions together with modern stylings to create a truly timeless sound. It’s electric, raw, and magnetic. It’s The Novaks.

The roots of the band spawn from the childhood friendship of Mick and Chuck. Though the two grew up across the street from each other in Wesleyville, NFLD, it wasn’t until they both moved to St. John’s that things began to take shape. After playing individually with a variety of different acts, they began to work together to form a band in the summer of 2002. Mark and Elliott were enlisted in the following months and the quartet’s unique chemistry was complete.

Things quickly took shape for the group as they signed a management and production deal with Inside Music, began recording demos, and set out on a UK tour. On the tour the band performed at some of the top clubs in London, including the Borderline and also as a part of Sony UK’s "Blame Canada" showcase.

Following their UK dates, The Novaks set up a recording studio in an old community hall (Atlantic Hall) and an empty tennis club (Riverdale Tennis Club) in St. John’s for three weeks in November, 2004. In these familiar surroundings, they crafted a debut album which, as Mick puts it “musically defines everything the band is about.”

From the opening salvo of "No One Quite Like You" to the closing crashes of “You Don’t Have To Hang Around”, The Novaks offer twelve original songs that highlight the depth of their songwriting and the intensity of their performances. This sound is exemplified singles “Goodbye Rock and Roll Band” and “Doesn’t Anybody Hear It”. Showing the band’s ability to instantly grab the listener, the songs carry memorable melodies atop energetic riffs and driving rhythms.

Over the past year, The Novaks have showcased at Canada Music Week, NXNE, and soon as a part of CMJ’s Music Marathon in New York. They have performed with national groups like Matt Mays & El Torpedo and Sam Roberts along with international acts such as the Psychedelic Furs and Hugh Cornwell of the Stranglers. The band’s song, "No One Quite Like You", was also recently featured as "The Coolest Song in The World" on Little Steven's Underground Garage (one of the most listened to syndicated radio shows in North America)and has been played ever since. See them as well in march of 2006 at the SXSW fest. in Austin, Texas!!

Great CD!!!
I first heard the Novak's on Little Steven's Underground Gargage radio show. I heard "Doesn't Anybody Hear It" and was floored. Great songwriting, lyrics and sound. Rock lives on with these guys. A must buy for those who love classic blues rock.

10 stars
over the years i have listend to a lot of different kinds of music, and alot of different bands. and i always over play the cd's and i get sick of every thing i listen to, but have been listening to you guys for the past year and the novaks are my favorite band. and i have been at your shows and heard some of the new tunes,so come on with the new cd already.

True Rock 'n' Roll Lives!!
In the past several years, the popularity of mindlessly trashy pop music and irritatingly soulless hip hop has made me despair over the future of True Rock 'n' Roll. Happily, with their debut CD, the Novaks have restored my faith in the future. Musically, the Novaks sound as though they could be the children of Tom Petty and the Smithereens, with the Stones and Pink Floyd standing as godparents. Their lyrics run the gamut from sweet and hopeful to cynical and jaded, touching on the experiences, feelings, and fears and doubts of Everyman. The gem of the CD is Track 5, Doesn't Anybody Hear It. Despite the lyrics disdaining stardom, if there is any justice in this world, this song SHOULD make them stars. Buy this CD, break out your favorite brand of Canadian brew, crank up the stereo, and DANCE! Thank you for this CD, Novaks; can't wait for your next one!

Great songwriting!
I found out about this band from an article about Little Steven's Underground Garage in a Southwest Airlines magazine. This is really one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Honest, straighforward, and interesting. These guys know how to construct a song. I even bought more CD's and had them sent to friends that appreciate great music. I'm looking forward to the next album.

A really great CD
Litle Steven was right-one of the best CDs released in 2005.

CD Baby is a real good outfit too.

A great disc. A must for any r'nr fan. One of the great debuts ever. With classics such as "does anybody hear it" and the last three songs on the disc' just incredible. You yoU're dealing with a great band when they can close an album strong. Highly recomended.
