Album Notes

THE NPK BIO.
A HIGH ENERGY DANCE BAND.

NPK is about five years old, and started as a trio. The band consisted of Tanner Speas as the guitarist and vocalist, Tao Ryce as the bassist, and Gregg Gratzel as the drummer. They wrote and recorded their first tunes and released a demo called "Seven Songs" in 2003. In 2004 NPK performed almost every week and at almost every venue in Humboldt County, including Reggae on the River and The Summer Arts and Music Festival. They opened for String Cheese Incident and Spearhead featuring Michael Franti. NPK recorded their first full length album in 2005 and independently released it as "The NPK". They continued to perform and included Dave Murray on saxophone giving them even more melodic possibilities. When they had written their next collection of songs as a quartet they recorded the second album entitled "Attraction...Reaction". This was also released independently in 2007 and followed by a two month tour. This tour was focused on raising money for non-profit groups including volunteer fire departments, civil liberties groups, schools and environmental organizations. In all, the NPK has raised over $60,000.00 for these groups. The line-up was completed when Galen Davis joined as the percussionist making the NPK a quintet. This year NPK has played many more shows including shared bills with Fishbone, Everlast, and Trulio Disgracias. The band recently recorded their third original album entitled "The Current", and made their first music video of the title track. You can find all this on www.thenpk.com
