“Light Out For the Territory” is a debut album and combines many of the influences and musical explorations that sum up the first decade of this young musician’s career. Successfully combining the blues, rock, and jazz into a remarkable 17 song work it commands close attention by listeners, especially if they are going to hear all of the intricacy that went into the mix, the beautifully understated guitar & vocal work, and the admirable effort the production team gave in order to give proper weight and balance to the interesting mix of genres. Released in 2003 when Nathaniel Street West was 23 years old, this means that the first decade of work reflected in this album began when he was 13. The extraordinary depth of character and feeling Street West presents here as a songwriter, arranger, producer, singer, and guitarist indicate a prodigious talent at work.
