Album Notes

NUNEZ began its most recent incarnation in late 2002, hailing from the southern state of Florida. Linda Nuñez, already a well-respected solo artist, returned home to Orlando after a stint in Nashville and joined forces with radio personality Melissa Foxx. Foxx recognized the talent and potential that Nuñez possessed and began utilizing her strong presence within the local music scene to assist in the promotion, marketing and booking of the band.

Meanwhile, Nuñez continued looking for the ideal players to round out her project. After several personnel changes things really began to gel for NUNEZ. In particular, lead guitarist Chuck Dorris has proven himself to be not only a fine musician, but also a solid composer, collaborating with Nuñez on the title track for the newest album, CRY MERCY.

Bassist Chris Martin and his brother, rhythm guitarist Dave Martin, along with drummer Odin ‘Sunshine’ Benitez, all hail from the now defunct band, No Man’s Land. Nuñez and Foxx had worked with NML on several occasions, and agreed that all three would be perfect additions to the project. As luck would have it NML parted ways, and the invitation to join NUNEZ was eagerly accepted by ‘the Brothers Martin and Sunshine’!

This strong line-up combined with a ton of community support and plenty of high-profile performances have helped NUNEZ develop into a solid determining force within the unsigned music arena.

A Spring Tour of the Southeastern Region in support of the new CD, CRY MERCY is in the planning stages, as well as an appearance at the 2006 L.A. Pride Celebration! Also on the agenda for NUNEZ - return performances for the National Mental Health Association of Central Florida, Calliope Fest ...quot; a Celebration of Women in Music, Gay Days-Orlando and Pride Festivals throughout Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Cry Mercy is a Diamond in the Rough, as is Linda Nunez!
author: MoFo Times
From the moment you turn Cry Mercy on, you want to turn it up! Within the first strains of the title track your head starts to bob and you find that your toes are tapping! It's then that you realize that you have stumbled upon a solidly produced 'rock in the classic sense' indie effort. Who is this gal? Where does she come from? How come we haven't heard too much about her? She really should be signed, don't you think? Well, I guess it depends. The true answer to any of those questions has one root. It's called... Money. Linda Nuñez and her band make unabashed power-rock!
author: Jon Sobel
Linda Nuñez and her band make unabashed power-rock. Inspired as much by 70’s icons Pat Benatar and Heart as by 90’s alternative bands like Live and Soundgarden, Nuñez sings in an unstoppable belt that’s very refreshing in this age of little-girl voices. And it’s not just her singing style and ballsy harmonies that evoke 70’s arena rock, it’s also her dramatic, sometimes deliciously over-the-top songwriting. A touch of Latin flavor (as in “Havana”), a soft underbelly (“Either Way”) and a proud but not heavy-handed gay identification give this artist plenty of crossover juice, too. The best songs are up front: “Cry Mercy” is a monster jam, and it’s hard to get the chorus of “Love In Pieces” out of your head once you’ve heard it. “Yea” is a headbanger’s delight that Beavis and Butthead would surely have labeled cool, and “That’s Where I Went Wrong” is a solid power-pop anthem. The songs on the second half of the CD have less hit potential, but the power never lets up, and if you like one Nuñez song, you’ll probably like the whole album. It has depth, and it rocks: two for two in my book. Jon Sobel
