CHARLES CARRINGTON & NUQ-LEUS

ARTIST/BAND BIO

Charles Carrington and NuQ-Leus (pronounced Nucleus) have been together since 1999. He formed his first group NuQ-Leus in 1982. This group broke up in 1985 after the sudden passing of trumpeter Milton Ward to unforeseen health complications. Milt was in his young 30's. The other members moved to other parts on the country and Europe by the end of 1985.

The present group has been together since 2000. NuQ-Leus has performed throughout the New York Metropolitan area at Concert Halls, Major Night Clubs, Colleges and Churches. Most members are leaders of their own group, and often include other members of NuQ-Leus when they are performing under their own name. All members are teachers and give private lessons when their schedule permits. Several members have their own CD and one is working on recording his. Each member is a gifted composer and the group performs original material in their shows.

NuQ-Leus has a unique style of straight ahead contemporary jazz, performed with energy, rhythm and power. Yet it can also play a warm mellow wedding as well as a swinging, joyful reception. This group plays original compositions, standards, gospel-jazz, contemporary smooth jazz with Swing, Latin, Caribbean and African Rhythms.

NuQ-Leus is currently comprised of these members:
Jeff King - Tenor Saxophone
Richard "Rasheed" Howard - Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Motoki Mihara - Acoustic Bass
Andrei Strobert - Drums
Abdus Sabor - Percussion
Charles Carrington - Keyboards
There are other musicians who fill in for the members when they are not available to perform with the group.

Charles introduced NuQ-Leus in 2002, with his CD titled: "After The Love II -
Charles Carrington & NuQ-Leus". This CD features compositions written and arranged by Jeff, Charles and former members of the group. Charles' youngest daughter Ebony debuted solo vocals on 'Yes Jesus Love's Me' along with background vocals from two of Andrei's nephews and some other children who are friends of the musicians and their children.

NuQ-Leus has been featured on New York cable TV shows in the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. They were also featured on the Internet TV Show "The New Yorkers". The group has also been featured on some college radio stations in the New York and New Jersey Region.

NuQ-Leus released its newest CD in the summer of 2005 titled: "NuQ-Leus - Live @ MoBay Café - Uptown". MoBay Café is a supper club in Harlem, New York which has been home for the group since 2003. This CD may be purchased through CD Baby.com as well as Tower Records and the group's website:
