"One of the finest guitar ensembles around."
- NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
"A remarkably mature ensemble...sensitive musicianship...Best of all, the N.W.G.T. cultivates new repertoire, including compositions commissioned by the group and Patterson's ingenious transcriptions of solo piano, chamber and orchestral works."
- GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE
"Indeed, what's remarkable about this debut is how fluidly and fluently the New World Guitar Trio makes this program seem idiomatic to three guitars, while providing a refreshing new perspective on the music itself."
- AUDIO MAGAZINE
Standard conceptions of the guitar repertoire and performance are simply not enough to describe the highly-charged yet highly refined approach taken by the New World Guitar Trio - an eclectic, contemporary ensemble that was founded in 1988 by David Patterson. The ensemble has no first, second or third guitarist, but rather, exchange leading and subordinate roles that are tailored to each player's style. This allows for individual freedom and also creates an exciting dynamic in live performances.
The group has performed world wide, where their tours have taken them to many diverse venues - Boston's Jordan Hall, Gardner Museum and Museum of Fine Arts, Honolulu's Academy of Arts, The Oregon Bach Festival, New York's Lincoln Center, Miller Theater, CBGB's Gallery and the Five Spot jazz club as well as tours of the far East and South America. The Trio has made numerous radio and television appearances, including National Public Radio ("Performance Today") WGBH-FM in Boston ("Boston Performances"), KING-FM in Seattle, WNYC-FM ("Around New York") and WQXR-FM ("Young Artist Showcase") in New York City.
By commissioning composers to write new works for three guitars, and by creating their own innovative arrangements and compositions, the New World Guitar Trio is carving out a new place for the contemporary ensemble. On their most recent CD release, Exiled , they perform arrangements of works by Ives, Gershwin and Carlos Paredes as well as music originally written for the group by Fernando Brandão, David Leisner and Claudio Ragazzi. In addition, each group member is featured in a solo work of his choice.

fantastic playing, wonderful pieces, very eclectic
author: John
What I love about this CD is the variety of the compositions and arrangements and the incredible skill and passion with which these pieces are played. Everything from Gershwin to Mangore to Ives to even Jimmy Page is here. This group is not afraid to take chances and they succeed brilliantly!
