Album Notes

Like the folk and blue grass players of the early sixties that became electric and ventured forth into rock (Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Paul Kantner, John Sebastian, Jorma Kaukonen) Nylon & Steel began as a folk act and progressed into an acoustic/electric rock outfit inspired by the Haight Ashbury scene / sights and sounds. Rooted in an early folk rock sound as established by the Byrds and McGuinn's 12-string, Nylon & Steel finds its home with the flavors of vocal harmonies with guitar, mandolin and harmonica solos based
around a rock rhythm section akin to the sound of early Jefferson Airplane and in concert includes the multi-media imagery of a full-scale light show called Troy's Lightning Caravan. The band's debut CD, SLIP BEHIND THE MOLECULE showcases the band's folk-meets-rock roots with eleven original cuts that include spoken word/poetry and a 10-minute improv excursion a la vintage Avalon Ballroom jamming. Nylon & Steel resides on Long Island and recorded their CD in an 18th century barn. Fans of the Grateful Dead, San Francisco Rock and Phish are most at home with the Nylon & Steel sound.

I first heard Nylon & Steel on the Vault fear no art cd. As the first song says it all the poetic words in all roads lead to northport witch starts off the acoustic part of the C/D witch is a great love balid. Next is my favorit That Distant,Shining Land witch is the first rocker the spoken words by Ian are in top form & sets the seting for this short pretty song kind of reminds you of early Birds, or CSNY Fields of Summer skies the acoustic high light rocker on the album witch when played live runs into the song over look. ride high is the rock electric part & last night I dream into the improve Dream Sequence with a almost eight min out of sight drum solo it's hard to image this c/d was recorded in a eightteen century barn this album is like the Greatful Dead's american beuty or working mans dead a rich open raw sound worth a listen ****
