Album Notes

As a child I was brought up in the apostolic church, hence my belief in God. I sang on the junior choir in church and most of my aunts, uncles and cousins were singers in the church as well. But it wasn’t until I was about ten years old that I realized I could do more than just sing on a choir. Around this time I had gotten into poetry. One of the spoken word poems I had written sounded like a rap when read aloud, my interest in it grew even stronger. I instantly assumed a new persona and dubbed myself, NY-ONE! There are many people in the industry today who have inspired me to pursue a musical career, some of them being Mos Def, The Roots, Drake, The Notorious B.I.G, J.Cole, Kid Cudi, Busta Rhymes, Slaughterhouse, Timbaland, and Missy Elliott. All of these artists, in some way shape or form have inspired me to continue to write, especially knowing that many of them came from the same place that I’m from and they’ve all been where I’m at. Hip-Hop world, here I come! In five years I see myself finishing college and entering a new stage of artistry. I see myself continuing to grow as a writer, as well as a performer and becoming a well known name in the industry. In the future I know I’ll be working with some of the artist I listed above and overcoming challenges I thought I’d be too afraid to face.
