Album Notes

The New York Saxophone Quartet represents every aspect of Americans making music. The members of the group are Dennis Anderson, Soprano Saxophone; Ralph Olsen, Alto Saxophone; Ken Hitchcock, Tenor Saxophone; and Lino Gomez, Baritone Saxophone. These players are recognized not only for their abilities as classical musicians, but also for their involvement in the commercial music field, the jazz world and the recording industry. On the NY musical scene, the playing of these four artists has made their presence a valuable asset in the many different professional areas calling for their special and highly developed distinctive styles.
The NYSQ has appeared in concert in the USA, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Japan during a history dating back to 1960. Many audiences, ranging from the most unsophisticated school children to highly sophisticated concertgoers have come away from the performances delighted with a variety of programming designed to answer the different demands of diverse venues. Our performances at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Auditorium, with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic with Dennis Russell Davies and at many music festivals, have always been enthusiastically received.
