An album of great songwriting, tasteful playing and fabulous production. The songs are simultaneously fresh and familiar and never contrived. If you appreciate top notch song writing and performances, Deposition does not disappoint. Great work Bob!

Bob does Bob...Finally!

I'm an avid Nyswonger fan. I've examined whether this has to do with knowing him for so long, and I've decided that it just doesn't matter. I like the songs the guy writes. I like EVERY song I've heard that he's written. I'm a songwriter too, and I tend to pay attention to other songwriters. I've always focused on the songwriter, as opposed to the instrumentalist. Bob I gaze upon with a mixture of awe and envy, as he's penned several of my all time favorite songs. His compositions on Psychodots and Bears records always became standouts to me. Always. This record is long overdue (in my humble opinion), and gave me more than I expected. That says a lot, as I expected nothing short of excellence. Excellence is what he's always shown, and this collection of songs are excellent indeed.
What I like the best about this record? I finally get to hear Bob sing his own stuff. Well, I've heard him sing his own stuff live, but for so many years his recorded material has been sung by either Rob Fetters, Adrian Belew, or Chris Arduser. Mind you, if I had to pick someone to sing MY stuff, I'd certainly be happy with any of those guys. Very happy indeed!
I called Bob and told him I thought he sounded (vocally) a bit like an amalgam of Ray Davies and Paul Westerberg. I meant it.
I liked this record instantly, and it has grown into an absolute favorite. I cue up "Number One," play it for strangers, then I say something like "if I could write songs like that, I'd write songs all day." I would.
Well done Bob, truly.
