Album Notes

OAMI (oh-ah-mee)
"I have been in love with expressing myself through music and art for as long as I can remember... As soon as I could speak, I was singing, as soon as I could hold a pencil, I was creating art."
-Tomer Oami

Of course being born into a musical family didn't hurt either. Tomer Oami's father was the drummer and lead singer of a well-known Israeli band called Purple Velvet. Born in Queens, New York, Tomer was brought up with a strong sense of his Israeli heritage. "If you were to come over to the Oami house on an average day, you might hear my dad listening to a Beatles record, or my brother listening to Israeli folk songs. There is always music being made or played."

When Tomer Oami moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2000 to attend college, he found a job hosting open mic night at a coffee shop called Aristotle's. He came into contact with musicians from all over the city. After listening to various performers that came through every Saturday night, he eventually found the right people to make his solo act into a band. These new members included, "G" on bass, James Bagley on lead guitar, Steve Vorass on drums, and Thea Vorass on cello and piano. Each person comes from a varied background and place. They share their experiences and love for music together.

"I want people to get inside my songs, relate them to their own experiences, and so share the moment... I use my voice as another instrument, and as I move from place to place, I sing my stories..."

OAMI is composed of Thea Vorass, Steve Vorass, Tomer Oami, G Villavicencio, and James Bagley. Before moving to New York, the band's original lineup all met through open mic gigs which were hosted by Tomer in Tallahassee, Florida while attending Florida State University. From there they have received much acclaim and radioplay for the three song EP featuring tracks "Typical Reaction", "Mechanical Flowers" and the ever popular, "Love Song." The songs and full biography may be heard and read on their website www.oamimusic.com. Songs from the new album may be heard at www.myspace.com/oami.

With the ultra-rapid success of the band, OAMI has managed to make the move to New York City for the next stage in their musical careers. The group has finished work on their much anticipated full-length debut album "Day In The City" officially released in November of 2005. So keep on the lookout for this up and coming innovative group as they are for sure going to change and help shape the sound of the national music scene!

Timeless Music...
author: Andrew P.
I am the type that is constantly seeking the latest and greatest music out there. I religiously listen to public, commercial free radio as well as XM feeds. When I find something worthy, I make it a point to give that artist props and share my discovery with others. Oami is quite unlike most artists out there today. You won't find any trendy, contrived or superficial messages here. Their music is honest and reveals its depths with every listen. Above all, its timeless in nature - from Tomer's writing to the production. I'll listen to this CD in 10 years as I do with CDs such as Jeff Buckley's 'Grace', and not feel like I've traveled back in time.

Music therapy for the soul
author: Jen Usry
As a music therapist, being in touch with music that touches the heart and latches on to one's soul is what I do...what I know. Never before have I heard an entire CD where every song has sounds and lyrics that are able to reach out and make the listener feel what the singer is feeling. "Day in the City" has songs that can transport the listener to another place in time that lives only in the memory. It brings about a release for anyone who has ever experienced what real life is all about...the pain, the joy, the love, and the reality that brings all of it together.

I encountered this band in a business setting. As I write ths review with thier ethereal sounds in the background; I feel as if I'm a teenager again. Just around the corner will be a love to inspire me and I have my whole life ahead of me. Who knew! I'll have to keep reserve copies on hand for emergencies. Thanks Oami
