Out by 5 is an improvising quartet of Jon Raskin (saxophones), Bill Horvitz (guitars), George Cremaschi (bass), and Garth Powell (drums). Out by 5 has been together for since 1996 and has been consistently creating original and exciting music ever since. Each of the musicians in this stellar group is a composer in his own right and is well versed in many traditional styles of music. Though the music they make is improvised, it is bound by a powerful unity of vision and execution. The band is telepathic in its ability to work together, shifting textures, colors, and rhythms at will, creating pieces that are concise and at the same time vehicles for true exploration.
