Album Notes

Gerry O’Beirne and Rosie Shipley met in a recording studio in Texas in 2002 and have been playing music together ever since. They tour the globe and can often be found in Dingle in the West of Ireland, which has become their musical home. Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful is Gerry and Rosie’s long-awaited duo album featuring Gerry’s instrumental compositions and songs interwoven with Rosie’s selection of traditional fiddle music from Ireland, Cape Breton, and Appalachia.

Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful is not like any fiddle and guitar album you have heard before. Recorded over five years on both sides of the Atlantic, it is an investigation into the nature of collaboration and the transformation of life through art.

Rosie has a unique voice on the fiddle: strong and searching, sweet and plaintive. Gerry's exuberant guitar style meets Rosie’s playing and teases out new paths full of color and incident. Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful introduces three new songs by Gerry as well as two poems by Irish poets (Free Soul by Patrick Kavanagh and Labasheeda by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill) that Gerry has set to music. Making her debut as a singer, Rosie contributes the dreamiest of backing vocals to all the songs on the album.

Together, Gerry and Rosie dip and dive from quiet intensity to the brightest of crescendos. Brimming with life, energy, and passion, Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful is a joyful musical adventure.
