This is a record for people who think they've made up their mind about singer/songwriters. It's different and it works on a bunch of levels. It'll punch you like a rock record, twist you like a Dylan lyric and provoke a search for the live performance. This guy does it. He writes like a poet. This escapes all the kitchen sink garbage of most contemporary folk records. Nobody's making singer/songwriter record that sound like this. The only thing that divorces this from easily digested mad record sales is that it's dense, conceptually. Not everyone will like it. If you're into middle of the road make you chuckle and send you home for the late news kind of folk, you'll probably wonder what the hell's going on. This is challenging. Approach with brain engaged.

It's just a question of whether or not you're willing to hear what James is saying.
