Album Notes

Inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Black Sabbath, and The Velvet Underground, The Occult Morphinas' eclectic sound has been referred to as "pharmaceutical folk", "space rock", and "gothic psychedelia." The band's emphasis is on well-crafted songs and lyrics, and an original approach to classic instrumentation. Each release has a distinctive yet cohesive sound, which is far from ordinary and mysteriously appealing. The Occult Morphinas are singer/songrwriter Zelda Salazar, Guitarist Garis Sun, Bassist Dan Fuller, and drummer Lisa Goldman.

Fans of obscuro indie-pop will find much to enjoy in these sinister pop gems.

"Strange" takes a Season of the Wtich-type droning riff and adds Nick Caves' echo-laden whore/blood/moan poetics. The Spanish lyrics of "Gala" are set to a surfadelic twist on "All Along the Watchtower." I like it - it's far from ordinary and mysteriously appealing.
