Ockum's Razor originated as an original St. Louis music artist in August of 2002 with their first public performance. By constantly challenging their imagination and creativity, it has allowed them to share the stage with numerous national acts, in hopes of possibly becoming one themselves in the future. They look to each other's similarities to better harness the music from deep within. Ockum's Razor just released a full-length acoustic release in early 2009 and is working towards completing a four-song EP, full band disk in 2009 for release in the winter of 2010. The new year will prove to be a challenging one, as they also continue to add to their repertoire and work towards also releasing a full-length, full-band disk by the end of 2010. A little diddy on Ockum's Razor...
author: Jet 'The Metal Magdalene' of Metal Messiah Radio
Who said nothing good could ever come out of fast food? For it was the kid working at the pizza place and the McDonalds guy that eventually met up to form Ockums Razor. They are an experimental type rock band that mellow out and bring some acoustical treats. Now normally I don't go for this kind of thing what so ever but their story was just so intriguing to me i had to go with it.....
In a day and age where so much music all sounds the same and musical artists fit all nicey nice in their cookie cutter mold Ockums Razor breaks the mold with their acoustical sound that has some deep hidden force behind it. Now like i said this band is such the opposite than what I am accustomed to. I mean, hell, they don't even wear black in their promo shots. What's up with that?....
In 2004s Novacaine EP there is a great hard rock sound with some ....Alice.... in Chain like harmonies in it. Very true to a hard rock alternativey band with a pretty hard driving sound to them. It seems though that they lost their bass player and line up in the band was starting to become a royal pain. They decided to just go acoustic in 2005 so they can still play out while searching for their perfect line up. Things were a little shaky still but around 2007 the remaining members keep on keeping on doing their acoustic thing. Then.. OMG!!! They picked up a few more musicians and finally started doing full band shows in about Feb of 2008. Then WOOSH!!! The wind left the sails again with the line up changing by summer of the same year. Now. As of October of 2009 they FINALLY have a solid line up.....
Now if you are not an angry, pissed off, person you will more than likely love their acoustical stuff. When I listen to it I always think to myself, "This guy has great vocals for a nice bloody death metal band". Dude sings with passion too. The harmonies are still ....Alice.... in Chainey (in a good way). These guys are ballsy too. To come to the chick with the most extreme Black/Death metal show on MMR and ask for a listen. DAMN!! How can you not admire that? Even when they are singing to you' Secret of the way things are'(which you can find in their music).....
All sarcasticness aside. I believe Ockums Razor found a perfect line up now. Hope they can keep it. The guitar playing is beautiful, the singing is like little male angels and the lyrics really take you away like a fine hot bubble bath. So when people are damning me to hell I tell them STFU and listen to Ockums Razor. Then they come back and thank me.....
