Album Notes

As a concept, the album is approached from Odel's community minded perspective as a universal citizen. This is music that channels an ancient energy, which takes the listener beyond the limit of today's popular music.

The use of live, off-the-floor recording session techniques help to bring out the sincere sonic essence which is one of the most powerful attributes of music. "I have been influenced by a lot of the sounds from the 70s and 80s and I aim to reproduce what I am feeling. I am a student of of that sound. Working together with the people that were making the music then ... we can go after that sound. It is natural, I think in those times, the creative energy that was behind the music was more patient."

ODEL - The Genuine Article

Odel is a Jamaica born self-taught drummer and songwriter, whose sound emerges from a foundation in the cultural and spiritual music of his childhood. Born in the parish of St. Ann, the birthplace of Bob Marley, Burning Spear and Marcus Garvey. The experience combined with exposure to many great mentors as a professional musician have honed his natural talents, further sharpened his ear and clarified his goals.

The brilliant talents of his band mates and living legends, bassist Fully Fullwood and guitarist Tony Chin, with engineer/ producer The Scientist - an innovator in the development and construction of the sound in reggae and dub music add a superior level of expertise to the project. Sophisticated chants are written with the richness of roots reggae as their backbone. Odel adds a few mood changes, which are interspersed in the mix including the album's title track that uses an R&B style rhythm. Strings and rock guitar, and pop jazz and blues style horns fortify melodies that move the mind and body.

It's strictly positive! It's roots, rock reggae at it's finest! Mind & Body Sold is both lyrically & musically rich! The depth of production is outstanding. Props to Scientist & Fully Fullwood for their contributions. This CD is music for the mind, body & soul. A classic to add to your musical library.
