by Oedipus

Progressive Rock, blending quality songwriting, with each member delivering standout performances, often leaning toward some quite ambitious art-rock tendencies, they've definitely earned the right to call themselves a true 'power trio.'

Album Notes
Jeremy Haffner and Stephen Cohen, the two founding members of Oedipus, have been together, actively writing and performing, since 1994. The two, then 13 year old, hockey teammates had been together since the age of six, playing AAA hockey and traveling North America together, which continued until the age of 19.
Now 23 years of age, the two Native Angelinos, children of industry families on both sides, have taken a large step towards defining their professional musical presence with the release of their first full-length album titled "Humbility."

In 2002 Oedipus became a fixture at the Downtown Los Angeles venue HANGAR1018, where they began to mix their music with the work of a diverse pool of Los Angeles visual artists.

Oedipus' first release, the "Oedipus 2000 EP" had three songs placed in Films. Already the "Humbility" album has placed two songs with film.

Oedipus is looking forward to progressing with their art and spreading it as widely and as strongly as possible.

Great new album
Humbility has added a whole new element to Oedipus. They stay true to their power trio sound, but show a mellow side as well. The lyrics are truly awesome and will have you hitting the repeat button again and again. Throw in the powerful bass and lead guitar lines and you have a CD that is destined to be a favorite in your collection.

a true ‘power trio.’
"HUMBILITY" by Oedipus:

"Fill Up," the opening track on Los Angeles based power trio Oedipus’ first full-length release Humbilityimmediately fills you with great expectations for the rest of the album. Expectations that are rightfully rewarded. They work wonders in infusing the feelings of Hard Rock, Funk, and Reggae – fairly complicated stuff – into their own original, raw sound.

Humbility flawlessly covers a lot of ground, and they represent the visions of the L.A. music scene that swirled through my head when i moved here: talented showmen with the ability to blend the different genres and cultures of Los Angeles into a respectably enjoyable sound. By blending quality songwriting, with each member delivering standout performances, often leaning to some quite ambitious art-rock tendencies, they’ve definitely earned the right to call themselves a true ‘power trio.’

Certain recorded aspects found on this release show an unmistakable maturation from the previously released Oedipus 2000 EP, including back-up vocals, keyboards, and some impressively haunting "studio magic" on the cut ‘Half a Step’. Not to mention the great flugelhorn performance on the jazzy / bluesy/ funky ‘Around’, and the mesmerizing string/keys arrangement on ‘Anticipating’.

While there are some show off, look-what-we-can-do moments (like on ‘Final Descent’) that the "real musician" listeners’ crave while simultaneously disrupting the groove to the "average" listener, make no mistake, there are plenty of hooks, including the hard-rockin’ bass driven ‘Welcome’.

Humbility is one that you can easily listen to from beginning to end on a road trip or in your headphones, comfortably sandwiched between your current favorite bands’ CD. Stand-out tracks include ‘Fill Up,’ ‘Around,’ ‘Welcome,’ and ‘Final Descent.’

Expect nothing but good things to emerge from the future of Oedipus! You’re going to want to be there as it happens.
