notes
Guns2guitar's second release. After his songs were banned on Israeli military radio O became an underground favorite of the alternative movement with draft counceling to turn away from guns and the traveling artist as an alternative to 3 years of military service. 22 songs around the theme of personal choice and O's individual journey through India and as a street musician in Europe to the alternative of family and Jerusalem where it was recorded with 22 different musicians, all from Jerusalem. An unique folding A4 cover and accompanying 24 page booklet with texts on how to get a discharge from the military and O's own discharge letter, this CD has reached every conscientious objector sitting in an Israeli military prison and many who used it to take the humorous way out. The lyrics reach to an awareness of a divine presence making the state obsolete. They call to turn away from the god of power that the army has become in Israel and stand outside the herd as an awakened individual. Offering an elitist path as a musician the album tells in pictures of a deserter flying to Spain to study flamenco with his sister (Lysistrata)a musician carried by the wind (Leaf)a lulluby with a cello (Faith is Art)a Loise Jordan visit to (Katmandu)a Yom Kippur visit to Katmandu (what's the price?) self definition in Klezmer (Who are You?)and in calling (MUSICIAN)a dixieland visit to an Arab-Jewish kindergarden (little peace) a cabaret meeting with the psychiatrist (21)and 12 more.In choosing whom to cover given the choice, O translated 4 songs by Leonard Cohen. "You who build these alters now to sacrifice your children...".see:www.leonardcohenfiles/ofer golany. The The Baal Shem Tov meets Frank Zappa and John Lennon and together they say theirs thru this channel -in Hebrew.

i saw the concert in Belgium and was taken by the intensity
author: EMMANUELLEafter understanding the translations i saw the focus of the message - weapons of war will become musical instruments through a change in consciousness; the album is very focused on the hebrew alphabet and has many different flavors and arrangements; the whole range of feelings from funny to serious and 77 minutes of musics is really epic; it is good to know that there are pacifists in israel and people who have the courage to leave the military behind - the holy spirit goes with you.
rips apart Israeli hypocricy ....full of magic and overwhelming intensity
author: avishai matia - hair -telaviv cultural magazineIf he didn't exist, we'd have to invent him...runs toward chassidic rhythms and barks Canaanite jazz/blues, maybe at last we'll wake up. Golany can be very cynical but also full of love, love of humanity and the love of a woman that draw you on through 22 tracks, like the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, that intermitantly whip and caress, not letting go of the listener till the bitter end. ( much shortened translated from the original Hebrew )
