Agree But---

I agree with Malik's review of The Asante Groove Project performance at the Buckeye Reggae Riddims release gig, but I think that the group spent too much time playing cover tunes, while they should have played more than two of their very powerful originals. I have been a fan of Charleston's music since his days with Riddim Fish and I still couldn't believe that he has not broken out of here yet. Keep it up, though!!!

Who Is This Guy?
author: Malik Robertson
I had nothing better to do last Sunday night, March 5h, so I stopped by Peabody's Downunder, to check out what was going on. It just happens that I had few bucks to burn (I had left over from my financial aid check). It was the Buckeye Reggae Riddims Compilation release party, with 8 bands on the bill. The frist band to perform was a rock band called Special Blend. Obviously, these young cats have learned their instruments. The second band- The Asante Groove Project is led by this Nigerian named Charleston Okafor, whose business card I had scooped off the bar counter earlier. Well, to make a long story short, Charleston and his group proceeded to blow away everyone in the audience with their 30-plus mimutes presentation. This guy Charleston is a rare blend. I hope this band keeps it up and work up moe original materials. It is refreshing to witness something like this in this town. Make sure to catch up with this band on March 30th, when they will be opening for Eddie Okri and The Afro-Centrix at Beachland Ballroom.

I was fortunate to catch your debut with Charleston Okafor & TAG Project (TAG stands for THE ASANTE GROOVE PROJECT) at Rain Night Club, Cleveland,on Sunday, January 29th, 2006. All I can say is wow! What a show? Your sound is beyond description and all I can wish you is the best. I hope that somebody in the industry has enough sense to give you the opportunity to share this music with the larger world. You deserve to be heard. And I hope that you don't give up on doing what you do best, which is staying true to the music. Persistence is the key.Looking forward to catching your showcase gig at Peabody's Down Under on March 5th.
