Album Notes

Old Toby's music is a melodic blend of the old and the new. The album is comprised of ten original songs in the neo-folk tradition. A mixture of electric and acoustic, it incorporates eclectic influences from Jimi Hendrix to Leo Kottke.

Dennis Lee, of the monster underground, says this about it:

I just listened to the whole thing from beginning to end for the first time
(loud) and I must say, it's pretty great. The production and sound textures
come through at the most unexpected times, and Sal's vocals (backed often by
Lou's always compelling harmony) is the glue that holds the Old Toby sound
together. Bucky's lead guitar riffs are tasty and original (though one might
compare his approach to John Chipilina).

The standout lead solo IMO comes in on 'All The Animals', a soft song that lets Bucky stretch out. The songs I've heard before were great, but a few surprises near the end had an experimental feeling that is very charming. 'To Heaven' seems to point in an entirely new direction in studio song craft.

All in all, a great, great CD.

What a surprising and wonderful record! A delight!
author: James Clerk Maxwell
This record is so wonderfully musical. The melodies are lush and the harmonies rich and enthralling. Sal's voice is the perfect complement to Bucky's fingerpicking style. Don't think that this is a traditional folk record though. The bands roots are in rock and roll and it shows. A great mix! The songs are well written and wonderfully performed. If you are sick of the same old same old, try this band. They are uniquely unique!
