Album Notes

Old War Shirt is a indie-folk band who calls Los Angeles home. Their style can be referred to as "fast folk pop". Led by songwriter, Jonny Cournoyer, Old War Shirt has interesting and unusual vocals and a classic amplified acoustic rock-n-roll setup. Live performances are energized and include David Pope on amazing drums and Dustin Poulton on bass/keys/strange sounds. This debut album, Nighttime Songs Under the Stars of San Rafael, consists of solo recordings by Cournoyer. Recorded at his coffee table, these songs were created with the use of an acoustic guitar, a mic, a tambourine, some shakers, and a water bottle for a bass drum. The results range from dark, folky, intimate compositions evoking pain, loss, longing and desire to upbeat rock songs with infectious melodies and perceptive, witty lyrics. Released through Gate 5 music, this album is gaining attention as well placement in indie films and shorts.

When not in Old War Shirt, the members take part in other bands as well, including The Slings, M.S. Garvey and the Hootennanny All-Stars and Raymond Pettibon and the Niche Makers.
