Album Notes

"Oli Rockberger...an ultra emotive young jazz piano player...he is also a vocalist posessing that well-known and well loved Stingy, Gabrielly, Collinsy tenor rasp"
-Phil DiPietro - "All About Jazz"

"A talented songwriter...his piano playing will knock your socks off!"
-Chrissie Murray - "Ronnie Scott's Magazine"

This EP was recorded by "The Oli Rockberger Band" in the run up to their UK debut at the Brecon Jazz Festival '03 (other festival performers included Soweto Kinch, Jamie Cullum and Hiromi) and the disk has been a consistent seller online and at live dates since. A combination of instrumental jazz ("The Captain" was aired twice on the UK's "Jazz FM" by DJ Mike Chadwick) and featuring some of Oli's most popular vocal songs to date ("9-5" was aired on BBC's "Jazz Connection" - DJ Andy Roberts, "This Old Man" was aired on "The Selector" internet radio - DJ Andrea Oliver), this record is a chance to hear Oli in a live trio setting with the excellent Tony Grey on bass and Chris Farr on drums.

London born singer/songwriter and piano player Oli Rockberger (25) won a Full Tuition Scholarship to study at Boston's Berklee College of Music at age 17 after auditioning in Barcelona, Spain. Since then, Oli has performed at the Brecon Jazz Festival with his own group in 2003, The City Showcase in 2004 (UK), The Phoenix Jazz Festival in 2001 (Japan) and toured Ecuador with his trio in 2004, culminating in a performance at the US Consulate General's residence. Written press includes UK Broadsheets 'The Times' and 'The Daily Telegraph' and a feature in online jazz magazine "All About Jazz", in which writer Phil Di Pietro described Oli as "a jazzy-R&B laced pop whiz kid...as much of a slam dunk talent as any artist I've ever reviewed or interviewed".

Major influences include:
Bruce Hornsby, Sting, James Taylor, The Yellowjackets and the Pat Metheny Group.

Blossoming talent that will inspire you
author: Joe
Oli Rockberger is a young, British singer/songwriter with a dazzling talent. His songs are beautifully written, and crafted with an astonishing level of musicianship - beyond even the high standard you would expect from a band comprised of Berklee graduates. There's a maturity and sensitivity to his material that combines with the melodic and harmonic originality to make a whole that is enchanting and enduring. I've listend to this CD over and over and over and... you get the picture. I can't wait for the next EP that, according to his website, is coming soon. Buy this. You'll love it.

Oli Rockberger Reminds Us To Dream!
author: J. Michael
Oli Rockberger is a songwriter beyond his years. This collection of material, written and arranged by the versitle singer/songwriter/pianist and performed with the support of his trio, is truly inspirational. Planet Love is the plea of a hopeless romantic, filled with a genuine passion rarely heard in pop music. Nine To Five reminds us of the importance of dreams and aspirations in a world of harsh realities. This Old Man is a piece of real poetry with imagry reminisent of Sting's work. The instrumental tracks are an aural delight with the whimsy of Vince Guaraldi and smart style of Oscar Peterson. I just picked up Oli's new solo EP and it's truly the next level. Get the both!
